Colour changes for CE and Core Line

Hi guys, new member here :-) my name is Richard and have been on the fence for buying a PRS for some time... Cost being one of the reasons it's taken so long.

This year I've been looking a bit more seriously but I'm having issues with PRS's colours.

For years PRS has had big vibrant colours but this year has been mostly dark bursts and faded,

Only standout colours are blood orange, emerald green and violet... I want blue's and maybe reds.

So the question after that boring speech... Anyone know when the Core line and CE will get colour changes... I wondered if the CE might just stay as those colours.

Thanks guys

Even if they do stay with the color scheme, keep watch for retailors special builds. They usually come with different colors.

Also keep in mind that every piece of wood will take the dyes differently, so not all of one color are the same. Many are either brighter or much darker. It makes each one even more unique.

Thanks for the advice guys.... Part of the issue I can't buy a CE at the moment is the colours (of the ones I've seen) are either too dark (whale blue) or to overly bright (ruby red)

I was hoping we would see a nice mateo or azure blue and maybe a cherry red or something a little less outrageous.

are the colours on the CE's affected by the shallower carve? from a playability point of view some say it's better, but looks wise...is it having an impact with colours and overall.

Please PRS. Bring back azure blue. The UK doesn't seem to have many dealer specific or unique colours. Mostly in the states.

Months. For example, I've been watching the colour choices on my favourite, the SE 24/7. The black has always been there (which makes sense -- black is always fashionable). I think they offer three colours per year, and only change one colour per year, so each colour besides black has a two year life cycle, or something like that. It's a long time. I think.

If colour is that important to you, I'd suggest opening yourself up to used guitars.

Besides, what's wrong with dark bursts? I <3 dark bursts.

I agree with keeping your eyes open for those special dealer runs. You can get some pretty unique coolers with those.

For the basic catalogue they seem to update it once a year, when they refresh the models.

As has been mentioned though, special dealer runs open up possibilities, as does going Artist Pack as there is a much wider choice with that.

PRS seems to change the colors with each new model year, so around Oct or Nov they get announced, with availability shortly thereafter.

I agree with Dusty Chalk - look at the used market, you can usually find something in the color you like for a price much lower than new.

And as for this year's color palette - I agree with the OP, it is much more "vintage" vibed, probably because PRS perceives that is where the customer preferences currently lie.

That would be great but the UK seems a bit thin on the ground when it comes to dealer only models... and didn't know they had this option for CE over here at all. US had the blue burst which was nice but never made it here and I believe a cherry red... smell situation.

Was unaware you could get artist model CE? or is this just CU models?

Thanks for that... gives me an idea of when I might expect to see new colour changes... although I don't recall seeing news as to whether CE will get colour changes?

I don't hate dark bursts if they have nice bright colours in... eg a quality fire red burst is nice but I need a strong red... otherwise it's mostly black. I've only ever seemed to own black guitars and pretty much always ibanez so when I finally get a PRS.. I want it to stand out and look amazing... so far the only colours I'm liking are fire red burst and black gold wrap. but would love to see a nice blue for cu or ce.

maybe something like a matteo, aquamarine, makena, peacock (but with gloss top)

Hey, I hear you -- cheers to that. (One of the reasons I entered into the PRS fray was for their purple guitars.) You're right, they should have at least one or two from each category -- light/fadeds, vintage-inspired, ultra-dark or black, a blue (though they did have a lot of blues last year), a red (fans of red guitars are a whole school of people), and at least one other colour -- purple, green, whatever...oh, look at that, they have two greens in the current lineup...that emerald...<3_<3...and a purple...I don't understand their preoccupation with blood orange though...but that's just me, I know at least two women who love the colour...would love to see salmon come back...

You really can't do much better than black gold -- that colour is sublime.

Although I have to admit, that fire red burst looks amazing.

Ah, you are correct of course, you cannot... which means the special runs may be the way forward...

If you have a suggestion, contact your favourite dealer and see if they'll order 10, I think if they do PRS will do it! :)

People want the vintage burst vibe, a more subdued look, or the traditional 80s-early 90s PRS colors these days. You might have a long wait for what you want.

Maybe the color shouldn't be the main thing?

it's a shame though.. subdued is not everyone's cup of tea and I think at 3k starting price.. colour is important, it should be a guitar that not only sings... it stuns.

if it's not going to be the colour I want, I may as well get the CE. 85/15s I'm after anyway.

only negative for me is this trem and tuners... Not sure if they stack up very well against the phase 3 tuners and the generation 2/3 trems.

Dealers want to order guitars that will sell well. PRS makes what they can get dealers to order.

But you can get any color you want with PS, and most colors with Artist Pkg.

If it's important to you - and I certainly understand - then it's just a matter of ponying up and paying the price. Shoulda coulda doesn't matter; the dealers don't want to buy inventory that's going to sit on their shelves for too long.

Same reason the car companies only make cars in what they think will be popular colors, and cars cost more than guitars.

It's what it is. You may just have to live with it if your wallet can't take the artist pkg price.

Look around for PRS in foreign markets (Japan especially), they seem to get the more flamboyant colors.

The only issue then is the inability to play before buying... also how can you verify you are buying a legitimate PRS guitar...

And then sadly there's the matter of UK Customs and Duty :-(

A lot of dealers have brand new guitars going back 2-4 years. So you're not completely limited to current year colors.

The trems are good but IMO you get what you pay for. I switched out the trem on my CE24 for a Mannmade due to tuning issues. The sound upgraded as well though.

The tuners are fine IMO on CEs.
