Does anyone know if the coil taps on the 594 models are similar to the 408 where they add some extra turns to maintain the volume consistent with the humbucker?

No, but they do use resistors which let some of the cut coil's signal through. This setup keeps the tone full sounding and the output doesn't drop too drastically. The LT pups sound great split in this configuration.

I did this with 59/09 and 85/15 pickups on various PRS and PRS SE. I like these new split sounds!

Standard humbucker tone = 100% coil A + 100% coil B

Old split tone = 100% coil A + 0% coil B

New bridge split tone = 100% coil A + ca. 25% coil B

New neck split tone = 100% coil A + ca. 12,5% coil B

The portion of coil B in split mode depends on the pickups.

To my ears, the new split tone is somewhere between old split and standard humbucker, but preserves the typical split character.

I don't really know how they do it, but from personal experience my favorite split sounds are from the DGT, but I absolutely LOVE the 594 with the 58/15LT pickups either in humbucking mode or splitted. I really like how these two guitars maintain their output when split.
