Is there anyone who has had PRS install newer model pickups into an older PRS? My 1990 Sig. Series Custom 24 still sounds great with its original 'Vintage Bass' and 'Deep Dish II' combo. But, I can't help wondering how amazing it might be with some of Paul's new tech in there...

My 2005 CE-24 came with the stock HFS/VB. I wasn’t a huge fan and I wanted a more balanced set. I changed them myself a few times. Ended up with Fralin Unbuckers. I also replaced the rotary switch with a toggle for simplicity. Pretty simple mods.

Many folks seem to believe PRS’ older pickups are generally not as good as the newer ones (except 53/10s). Some folks swear PRS pickups still lag behind other makers. PRS pickups are pricey, but in line with competitors, except Duncans which are a steal.

The PRS PTC currently charges $150 for pickup install, plus cost of the pickups. That does not include shipping out/back. You can supply your own pickups. If you live close enough you can pick-up/drop-off at the factory.

Oof! Hang on to that Deep Dish II
Right? Thanks! I ordered that guitar in 1990, standing right in the old Virginia Ave., Annapolis office. Paul had just taken us on a factory tour. When he heard that I'd ordered a D.D.II for the bridge - he handed us another one from the cabinet and said; "Here you go - this is the very last one in stock, and we're not going to make any more." So, I've got a spare on the shelf!
