Choosing neck shapes.

Just wondering, how does PRS determine what neck shape goes on any given guitar? Is there a science behind it?
You know...why did this guitar get the Wide Fat neck? Why did that guitar get the Pattern Regular? So on and so on.

Just curious, nothing more.

I think the original neck shapes gradually developed as Paul went through his hand building stages before the factory days. But I thought you might find this interesting, even though it doesn't fully answer the question:
