Hello Forumreader,
I am a new member and I would like to post and reads threads and reviews as it helps in so
many ways to find better sounds or tech.

My first thread will ask about the Speaker question - Celestion or other good speaker!
I want to put some new speakers in a 2 x 12 cab, which isn't a PRS cab, but built from baltic birch
and has the measure of a typical marshall bluesbreaker cab.

So my thoughts are: Celestion newer Creambacks, but which cause there are the G12M65 and the G12H75.
In the past I have used Vintage 30 and G12T75 which I don't like so much cause it feels like they are more heavy speaker.
My PRS SE 30 tubeamp has 30 watts, and it semed to me that it runs a little darker than maybe other amps??

So if you would like to go with this thread it will be helpful for me. Thanks to all replies. Hollywoody

I haven't tried creambacks. A mix you see a lot in 2x12 cabs is the Celestion G12H30 and Celestion 12M Greenback. You see this combo in many cabs matched with 30 watt class 'A' amps. They may be a good match with the SE 30 as well?

A pair of G12M65 Creambacks are great with a 30W Cathode biased amp. They break in quickly, too!

Hi Thanks for this reply, may be the Creambacks H75 are too much for the 30watt SE 30??? Louder than G12M65?
I look for speakers that work well for clean, blues and moderate rock, not too fizzy or harsh, no metal etc.

Hi vchizzle, thanks a lot for answering: Don't you think that it will be to trebly with the G12H30 anniversary (or do you mean heritages)
and the greenback? If I remember the Greeny was always more highs and the Vintage 30 more mids. Both alone was not my way.
Greetings Hollywoody

I just really like M's or Greenbacks with all of my amps. Marshall DSL40, 30W cathode biased Bad Cats, and my Two-Rock Studio Pro 50. I am sure the H's are good too, you just can't go wrong with a pair of M's for Clean to Crunch to searing lead tones. No ice pick or harshness.

I think a lot depends on the construction of the cab. For example, a pair of V-30s sounds a lot different in a pine cab than it does in a birch ply cab. Open or semi open back cabinets sound different from closed back cabs or ported cabs. Theile cabs sound different, too.

And of course, speakers mounted on the outside (front) of the baffle sound different than the same speakers mounted on the inside (back) of the baffle.

If I was putting speakers in a cab, I'd want to take a lot of factors into consideration. I'd also consider alnico speakers, like Celestion Blue, etc. Best speakers for certain styles in the world, IMHO, and at least worth considering.

I was talking about the anniversary. That combo of speakers was used a lot with Matchless and Bad Cat amps, I always thought they sounded good. Les is right, that the type of cab will affect it a lot too. The SE 30 being a little on the darker side, I don't think you'd have a harshness problem. Unfortunately, there's only one way to find out - try it. I've heard a lot of people liking the Creambacks, I just haven't tried them. Speakers are my least favorite item to trial and error - I'm pretty much a V30 guy, I play rock and play fairly loud. Whenever I stray away, I always come back.

I love my 65w creamback in my Marshall DSL40C. Just sounds good.

Hi Thanks for this talk, it will help a lot. will try the Creambacks M65 as well as the H75er. I will report after playing.

Thank you LSchefman, that is very compact declared to me! I think the cab is well constructed and the option for semiopen
and closed back as well will give more option. I will try the Creams and report then. Greetings Hollywoody

Agree completely with the idea of checking out some Blues. I have a vox 2x12 cab which mates perfectly with a ton of my heads (so long as you don't go nuts on the power as they are only 15W a piece...)

There's a reason why so many players love the tone from Blues!

They've always epitomized certain rock sounds for me, anyway. I'd love to hear a pair in my DG cab, though I'd need a second cab with the v-30s too.
