Can anyone help verify the heel thickness from the different eras of PRS. Minus the fretboard thickness.

I know some prefer the early 90s models and others prefer the newer models. What is your opinion on the heel.

Some claim dead spots on the g string on the older 94 era models.

Lastly, snap and bite I prefer over the set neck unless the model is rosewood…your thoughts on variance in neck woods for PRS. I know they won’t make newer necks for replacements. But if they did what would be your choice…wood wise. And what heel thickness and why?

Early on they were short heels like the Customs, they switched in mid 90’s I believe on all guitars to longer heels for more stability.

I had a 2007 and it definitely had a longer heel that was fantastic (all mahogany body with no maple top). I was looking at a ‘91 CE with a short heel but I couldn’t snag it in time.

I have from each era, bolt on and set neck. I don’t have a generalized opinion about good, better, best. I do believe that there are times when you pick up a guitar and love the sound. Each guitar has its own sonic personality, and that’s what IMHO you should be looking for. Some hate/ some love a particular one, but none of us have played enough to form a valid general opinion. That’s like asking who the best guitar player is. Put your hands on what you think you might like, and listen very closely. Personally, I usually have to play a guitar for a month or so to form an opinion. The exception is the one on the left in my avatar. I knew when I strummed the first chord. I still have several others, but that gets my best gigs.
