For my own clarification…up until '94 all CE models (22 and 24 fret) had alder bodies with a maple top, and in '95 both models switched to mahogany bodies with maple top. Do I have that right? I should be able to verify model year of production with the serial number using the model identification page from the support page of the PRS website?

According to the PRS book, the engineering notice for the change from alder to mahogany on the CE line was issued in mid-1994. I don't have the book in front of me right now but I *think* it happened in August.

Thanks guys. Been watching a '94 CE22 on ebay...heard back from customer service that the 22s had 'hog backs. dang...

Don't sell it short. They're still monster guitars.
I have a '96 mahog/maple CE22 and love the thing.

I have the mahogany/maple covered with my 408(yes, 408 and CE have different necks). Was looking for something a little different...

I've considered the SAS also, but can't get past the CE mojo. Besides, the one I'm eyeing is significantly cheaper than a SAS(I know we can't talk price, so multiply Hans' new SE One by a little over 3…)...

buy it...

wait for an alder/maple top...:dontknow:
