Hey y’all

I was wondering if any of you guys feel a little ridiculous playing high end models. I have a WL10T 594 and it feels more like a piece of art; I hate getting scratches and would be devastated if I ever dinged it. It sounds ridiculous but sometimes I feel overwhelmed when playing it. When I practice and mess around I prefer using my S2.

Anybody else think this way?

I think your guitar should make you happy however you choose to use (or not use) it.

My "high end" model is a gently used 2018 aquamarine 594 10-top I purchased in October. The previous Owner took great care of it and it was like new when I purchased it. With that said, purchasing it represented the end of a 25+ year unhealthy lusting after PRS guitars... It also made me pick up a guitar again after ~7 yrs and I have been playing 7-10 hrs/week since it arrived. That is a long way of saying while I feel ridiculous playing it (both due to skill and style of music) I look forward to playing it almost every day. I have to admit I have two LTD EC-1000's that I use for most of my learning/practice to reduce the risk I ding my PRS too soon.

Nah, play em all is my motto. If you bought the guitar to stare at it as art, that’s your prerogative. I’ve certainly bought plenty of things for their visual beauty. Do whatever makes you happy and comfortable. A scratch or ding isn’t going to ruin the guitar through. It just means it’s been played and probably loved.

My WL 594 gets played at band practice often, and if I ever get to gig again it'll go there too.

I play them all, but also chose them for their beauty because that’s what I like. Hell, I even put a scratch on the headstock (sloppy while changing strings, that’ll teach me!) and a small impression on the neck of my P245T (leaning over my old Kemper toaster head to tweak a setting, Doh!). Didn’t bother me as much as I thought, because the guitar plays and sounds perfect for my taste. I don’t play out though.

My #1 is a one piece quilted maple top that is a gig warrior. Aside from being the most beautiful PRS I’ve ever seen, it’s also my magic guitar. Lots of nicks chips and scratches and a large scrape to the bare wood on the back. How can I enjoy it if I haven’t used it? YMMV, but if I own it, I gig it. Period.

"the good ones got played" I play mine and look after them. But they are for playing.

Also..
Cars are for driving.
Boats are for sailing

… Get your rocks off, get your rocks off, honey

I gig my one and only PRS.

All my other non-PRS too.

But if I had a £10k Private Stock I might have to change my answer. Who knows, it’s never gonna be a decision I have to make. Probably!

Sadly, I have sold off my most expensive PRS guitars because they were case queens. I am just not comfortable playing really expensive guitars. There is not a lot of interest for reliced PRS guitars and I routinely sell off guitars. The only PRS guitar that has lasted more than 10 years in my collection is my 2009 core Mira Korina. I was planning to get a Private Stock as a retirement present to myself, but decided against it because I knew it would be a case queen. I decided to get a Fender Custom Shop Aztec Gold ‘61 Hardtail Strat and a Gibson Custom Shop R7 because I could purchase both guitars for less than I was going to spend on a Private Stock. So far, I actually play these two guitars, but the acid test is will I take these guitars out of the house to play?
