Case for air travel

Hi can anyone please suggest a tough case for a P22 that would be strong enough for going into the hold of an airliner as well as for transport for gigs. ie not super huge and bulky

Do what I do....get a PRS gigbag with the hanger....carry it on...say hi and smile at the flight attendant and ask her/him to hang it in the 1st class closet. Works for me every time. Other than that.....buy an approved case or you're looking for trouble! Baggage handlers hate rockstars!!! lol

Maybe I just like them because SKB used my guitar's twin for it's picture...

I have done this going back and forth from Detroit to Dallas. The flight attendants are great. I also made sure i was one of the first to enter the plane after first class to get a good overhead spot just in case the first class closet was full. Use a nicely padded gig-bag. The prs one on the store site is awesome!!!!

Well, the converse of that question is also interesting: would you really risk having your guitar put into the hold and handled by baggage guys in anything?

When I fly with a guitar, I use a gig bag and either hang it as Jet Whitey says, or put it in the overhead bin. If I was told there was no room for either, I'd get off the plane.

But then, I'm a fanatic.

I always use a bag too. The points about smiling, getting there early, and stowing it in the 1st class closet are all great ones,.. if you're bringing anything other than your man-purse (that you stash under your seat), then check it and bring your gig bag as your one legitimate piece of carry on.

Keep in mind that there really is no such thing as an "ATA approved flight case", the ATA doesn't "approve" anything, they merely publish a set of guidelines.

Personally, I would not. The potential for that working will vary depending on what sort of flights you're taking, and will fail eventually.

A flight case is called a flight case for a reason. I trust those over my chances of every flight having space in the 1st class closet. And putting it in overhead takes up at least two normal overhead spaces. So again, slim chances there. Airlines these days are optimizing schedules and cramming flights as full as possible. Protect your investment.

I will be flying LA to UK to Turkey, so getting off is really not an option and I simply can't risk them saying there is no room.i do appreciate a quick internal flight with a gig bag would be an option. the SKB looks like an option.

Is there somebody in Turkey you could ship the guitar to? At least then you could insure it.

It's a good call Sergio but the customs in Turkey are horrendous and the duties payable are immense

I just flew from Arizona to Virginia through Chicago. 4 flights, one core Mira, one SE gig bag, zero problems. All overheads. However, International could be a bit more tricky.

I've only used Anvil cases and those were on domestic flights. I don't believe I would ever put one of my PRS' in the hands of the airlines.

I have the rolling SKB for my SE Tremonti Custom.
It is bomb proof

On international flights they often make you check them.

I often pack up the guitar before the flight as I woud shipping the guitar..... in a shipping box and everything. Then I just cut a small hole in the side just big enough to pull the handle out when I am carrying it in the airport. Carry a bit of tape to tape the hole after you tuck the handle back in as it gets checked in. At the other end pull off the tape and pull the handle out and carry it again!!

I flew with my gig bag to work in France and Holland, no issues. But I suppose one never knows.

Thanks for the advice. Tim I may go down your rout. But Corey that does look just the job. All things considered would you risk it in the hold of a jumbo?

I am not sure Steve, I have heard of things that are on the conveyer systems getting sideways and getting crushed.
But all in all it is one tough case.
The only reason I bought it is the stock PRS hardcase my SE Tremonti Custom the neck would not lay flat unless you put a towel under the lower body to raise it up.
This case fits my SE much better, and the neck lays flat.
They came out with the gray interior shortly after I bought mine.
