I have just received my first PRS, a 2016 Tremonti in violet. I was wondering if there is an upgrade available to make the guitar sound more open and maybe bigger with relation to the pots and capacitors. I do plan on switching the pickups out to the BKP Ceramic Warpigs, just wondering about changing the pots and caps.

thanks for any valuable and experienced input.

I put Bourn's pots and orange drop caps in my Tremonti SE Custom and they are great. The pot's are very smooth and have a great taper. The orange drops are also really nice and inexpensive. I also swapped the pickups out for Seymour Duncan Pegasus/ Sentient set and they sound amazing in that guitar.

the guitar sounds somewhat compressed and sterile, I'm figuring the caps, pots, and pickup change will open it up.
I'm a les paul guy, and I'm wondering if the scale length has a little to do with it, idk.

I'm assuming it's the USA model (considering it's Violet)? If so, you will gain nothing by replacing the pots and caps.

yes, its the usa model. compared to any of my les pauls this tremonti sounds very compressed and sterile (best way I can describe it).

I went from a Les to PRS. THe pickup change will give you a nice difference, but I hope you don`t expect it to sound like a Les. It ain`t. I have a Tremonti SE with USA #7s and an SE TremontCustom with old USA Mira pickups. They both sound great, but they both sound like themselves. Learn the sound, change your amp settings, and then burn like hell.

You would have to tell us about how your Les Paul was set up ( Pickups etc ) Your new Tremonti has a 25" Scale ( 1/4 ish inch longer ) and most have a Trem
PRS also uses a .033uf Tone cap most Gibsons use a .022uf cap.
Also the Tremonti Treble is 15.50 and Ceramic one of the hottest PRS pickups the Neck is 7.5 ish and Alnico
The Tremonti Treble reacts very well to raising and lowering to tune to your sound.
I don't believe there is anything about a Tremonti that is set up to sound Vintage but if its to hot or Modern sounding I would think a 59/09 or 58/08 set would sound great in that guitar

The Tremonti pickups are wound for full burn. They are not going to open up whatever you do. They are great for keeping a cutting tone when drop-tuned with heavy strings, but I think they are too mosquito-y for lights or E standard. I LOVE them with 0.011s in drop Db.

For best all-around, I use BKP Cold Sweats. I have them in an SC245 and a 25" Singlecut. Highly recommended. Open and mellow if you roll it back, some nice bite and pinch harmonics if you fire it up. Not too much or too little output. Not too smooth or too harsh.
