Can't decide what's next: CE24 or a S2 594...

Last month I got back into PRS, and I'm in the process of selling all of my other guitars, except for a Telecaster, because they're still awesome. And my new year's resolution is one word: Reduce. Applies to everything.

So currently I have a very nice S2 Custom 24, bought that new last month. And then a SE Mira. Last non-PRS that I have to sell is a Les Paul, currently on Reverb. So I want one more PRS, something to "complement) the S2 Custom 24. Might even trade in my SE Mira. So it's between one of the new S2 594 (likely the Singlecut) or what I've been jonesin' about for a while now, a CE24.

Likely the CE24 will be used, and there's some good deals to be had. But my local dealer has one that is unlike what I've seen anywhere else - a custom order in Antique White, with natural back. There's a used on on Reverb like it, but it doesn't have the natural back, and I like the local one way better.

But the S2594 would be a nice complement I think to my Custom 24. Main reservation I have with the upcoming 594 is the neck being pattern vintage which might be beefier than what I want. My CU24 is a Pattern regular, and the SE Mira is a wide thin. So the CE24 being a pattern thin could be preferable for me. Are the 85/15 in the CE much different than the 85/15 S in my S2? I do like these pickups, but having them in 3 guitars is a bit overkill. But in the end, I might end up with just the S2 Cu24 and either the S2594 or CE24.

I'm rambling, or thinking out loud. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this "predicament". Cheers.

I appreciate your situation. Over the years I have acquired a lot of guitars that filled a need at the time, but mostly sit cased these days. I decided it would be better to have fewer total numbers of, but more often used, guitars than my current situation. So far I’ve sold a Les Paul, a Carvin CT6, and two Strats and replaced them with 2 594s (one each DC and SC) and a a Silver Sky. I’m completely happy with the 4 for 3 (and a little cash) trade. By the way, the pattern vintage neck was a bit of a revelation to me, as I normally gig 513s. Very comfortable and easy to go from one to the other. No doubt the PV feels larger, but it’s nothing like the 2x4 feeling big Gibson necks.

So, obviously, I’m going to say “give the 594 a try.” My next hill to climb is going to be an Antique White 594 Hollowbody II. I have a feeling that’ll be a 4 for 1 trade... but that’s ok. By the way, I am also keeping a Strat and a Tele. You have to have at least one!

I would go and fondle the CE and gaze at the beauty of the antique white again. If it spoke to me I would bring it home and enjoy it’s curvature for years to come.

If it didn’t speak to me, the S2 594 will give you a different voice than what you have.

Ideally I have both in front of me to choose! I don't think the S2 594 will be out in time, but who knows. I can't do anything until I sell my LP, but that could be fairly quick, you never know.

I keep going back to the new S2594 thread, and relistening to the videos, I might just veer towards the Thinline now. Neck carve more to my liking, different pickups than my CU24, and all mahogany, plus being a little lighter (maybe) could be an advantage. Still thinking out loud! Got an offer on my LP too, since I started this thread.

If you are going to read the thread again and relisten/watch videos you are started to get hooked. ;)

Like you said different pickups, neck more to your liking. Go for that Thinline!

Based on your neck concerns, I'd say Thinline. Man, that thing looks and sounds awesome!

When you say used CE24 do you mean used newer or old rendition?

If used older consider CE 22 or CU22 with dragon 1 pickups. Dragon 1s are really good high output pickups.

Depends on price point I guess. But probably a newer used CE24. I haven't looked too closely at the CE22, but no reason not to.

Since you're keeping the Tele and ditching the LP, my mind goes to the 594, particularly the Singlecut. It would give a unique tonal palate compared to your existing collection.

I think the 594 Thinline will overlap too much with the SE Mira, but that wouldn't be a problem if you unload the Mira and cut it down to three guitars.

Yeah, I'm kinda of thinking that too. The Mira is so new, I'd have to get a very fair trade in, and I think I would from the same dealer. Heck, still has the plastic on the pickguard. My biggest problem is waiting for these new 594's to arrive!

So here's the easy answer - buy a CE24 this month.
ALSO: Place an order for the S2594, which could be delivered in 2021.
By then, your reduce resolution will have expired and you will have what your heart truely desires :)

simples!

I like your thinking! I'm hearing July for some of these 594 models. Not patient enough for that, so yeah, probably the CE24, and 594 maybe in 2021. Well thought out plan!

So I sold my LP quickly. I see SW still has a couple of S2 Singlecuts in stock. In some ways, too similar to my S2 Custom 24. Same scale length, wood combo, neck size, all the same. Pickups are different, but I don't recall the #7's being outstanding. How is the one piece bridge on these compared to the 2 piece bridges on the 594?

Visually, a nice piece here, and price is good too.
