Hi,

OK, I will be up front. I'm an beginner/intermediate guitar player. I'm trying to graduate from playing chords on my acoustic Taylor 110 to learning more lead guitar licks. My musical taste is primarily Grateful Dead, folk and classic rock

I recently attended a PRS session locally and met Paul. Now I'm hooked. My local shop has a couple of used PRS guitars that I'm trying to decide between.

They are both late 2010/early 2011 models

One is a stripped 58, the other is a McCarty

They are both listed for around $2000

I suspect the answer is two fold - play them both and decide, and both are great.

I do like to get advice from folks with more experience than me. I must say I'm emotionally drawn to the stripped 58 with the double bridge and the single cut shape.

Thanks

When my local GC had their aggressive 49th anniversary deals I played both a Stripped 58 and an MC58 - I almost walked out with the stripper...there is something magical about the 57/08s with that bridge.

I even played one of the new SCs against that stripper and the stripper won...if she's calling to you, take her home...

I'm a big fan of McCarty's as well. You can't go wrong with either but the McCarty has some serious mojo...

I'd vote for the Stripper, personally, as I think they are astonishing guitars. The McCarty is quite a bit different though - these are apples and pears, kinda!

If you think they're both good, go with the one that pulls at you. You want what you want, and even if you buy and love the other, somewhere in the back of your mind, you'll always remember the other guitar.

Stripped 58. Definitely the tone monster. I've had several McCartys, and several SCs, but the Str58 is one of the best PRSes ever IMHO. I should never have sold the one I had.

Same. Mainly due to the one piece bridge. It's my favorite.

I love the one piece too! Simpler designs are my kind of stuff

That said, get the one that speaks to you the most. I'd take the McCarty, but that's just due to my preference for a doublecut PRS. Try both if possible and decide for yourself :)

Everyone needs a nice stripper in their life!
Honestly, it's a tough call for me. Those are 2 of my favorite models. Get whichever gives you that tingly feeling.
