Bye-Bye Photobucket

So doesn't that mean don't use Imgur for direct links to photos of our stuff (like our guitars) from sites like this forum?

A staff member clarified this on their community forum: "Imgur allows hotlinking on forums, but hotlinked images cannot be used as content for a website, including blog posts, avatars, site elements, and advertising."

So for our purposes here it's perfectly fine.

I was a photobucket user but now I'm looking for something else. I thought Flickr would be a good alternative and they do host the photos and have a nice interface but I haven't figured out how to hot link photos yet.

Is there a better option than Flickr?

I might have figured it out but it's a real pain... Is the picture showing up for everyone?

I can see it.

Very interested to hear how you did it. I just signed up for flikr, but haven't had time to putz with it.

How much of a pain is it?

(Just ended every sentence in a post with "it," which is piss-poor usage of the English language)

If you click share, one of the options is Embed, if you then scroll through the code, you will see "img src=" after which is a URL to the actual photo. I copied the URL out then clicked the insert image on this page and pasted the URL in.

The embedded code looks like this...
<a data-flickr-embed="true" data-footer="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/150761909@N02/35692364815/in/album-72157682943962264/" title="DSC_0121"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4071/35692364815_35d3d91d7c_o.jpg" width="640" height="424" alt="DSC_0121"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

All that's needed is this...
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4071/35692364815_35d3d91d7c_o.jpg

Like I said, kind of a pain. Maybe there's a better way, I just haven't found it yet.

I've been able to share the BB code from the full website no problem, but no luck from the app or mobile site. Right now I'm in between using imgur or flickr. Once I make up my mind, I'm transferring all my pics from Photobucket and deleting my account.

On the Flickr site, select Share and then BBCode. Will look like this:
Code:
[url=https://flic.kr/p/VePm6r][img]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4282/34943261011_1b5e72e4eb_c.jpg[/img]2017-06-03_01-28-05[/url] by [url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/56002388@N04/]lgbclp[/url], on Flickr

And I thought all the ads were annoying...

I can't even get to my photos...

All those years of saving GIFs to post here on the Forum...

I'm with Sergio on this one...what's everyone switching to?

Seriously I've been swearing for a year that I was going to dump Photobucket but have just been too lazy to do it. This is exactly the motivation I needed.

I have a crap ton of stuff on Google Photos. I'm just not sure how the sharing and privacy works out. I have a lot of family and other pics I want to keep private.

Here's one I just added to a shared album. You guys let me know if this works:

How about Smugmug? I used to have an account many moons ago when I was doing some photography as a hobby. Yes, you have to pay to use it but if I'm going to pay it might as well be a site that works. And I don't recall it being very expensive for a basic plan. I'll have to do some more research but initially it appears you can share images in a number of ways.

So what do you do with the BBCode, just paste the entire thing in line? I tried pasting that into the add Image box from here but that didn't work. Guess I need to do a little trial and error testing myself.

Answered my own question, you just paste the entire BBCode inline, no need to click the add image button...

Just to make sure...

The only thing I don't like is the footer it adds.

Yep, you got it. You can delete the tag from the code. In your case, delete the below when you post a pic.

Code:
 by [URL='https://www.flickr.com/photos/150761909@N02/']rik henson[/URL], on Flickr

Should I try them or something like Flickr or Imgur? What's everybody else doing? I'm ready to be a follower on this one.

I really have no clue. I know peeps have had some issues with G too. I think Ima be a Lemming and follow all you guys off the cliff. What's the consensus?

I am trying both Imgur and Flicker at the moment there is a share button on Flicker that gives you the link to the BBCode and that seems to work so far, sucks that all the posts and pics for years are now bad - I will never do anything with Photo bucket ever again

Trouble is Flickr won't give you the code on Chrome mobile browser or Android app, so you can't post unless you're on a PC.

imgur mobile app is limited, but at least you can get direct links for posting.
