Any issues buying from Canada(new, from a dealer) and having it shipped back to the USA? Are there taxes involved or stupid shipping costs or anything?

Once the item has to cross the border the shipping goes thru the roof, figure $200 for Fedex. Other than that nothing too bad, US-made guitars are duty free in either direction.

I have bought from Guitar Shop in Canada a few times, I don't recall anything like that. If you are buying from a shop, call and ask them.

They are closed today so wasn't expecting an answer until tomorrow but they got right back to me. Said shipping is about $100 and that's all there is to deal with. With the US Dollar being high on the CAD it makes it pretty attractive.

Geez, 2-3 day shipping from Japan is like $120. You would think from Canada it would be no where near that much.

Guitar prices in Canada have officially gone up because of the dollar. For you guys states side, deals would be had for sure ...

I would guiess that PRS has enough negotiating leverage with its Canadian dealers that they can mandate that dealers pay for guitars in US$ (but you never know). If this is the case, then you are correct to expect to see guitar prices go up in Canadian shops. Canadian dealers may see the strong $ as a chance to raise prices in any case (even if the pay for their imported guitars in Canadian $). With respect to deals in the US (on US made PRS guitars only), I am not sure that I see any impact one way or the other resulting from the strong $, unless PRS pays its wood suppliers (for example) in currencies other than the US$ (and that doesn't mean that PRS has to pass that savings on to its dealers etc.).

I guess my point is I don't think we (the consumer) will see any better guitar deals in the US resulting from the strong $ - But there still we be plenty of deal opportunities, as there have been in the past.

Others may feel differently.

Canadian dealers pay PRS in US$.
Most of them price based on what they pay so the Canadian price is based on the exchange rate when they got the stock in bcause that is what they have to turn a profit on. Currently most of their stock was brought in at a much lower exchange and they can do well with what looks to someone paying in US as a decent discount: a 10% swing in 3 months, 15% in 6 months. That is certainly noticable on core models.

If you live in Canada, and you are thinking about buying a PRS, you may want to act now & beat the price increases that will come when Canadian dealers place their next orders.

Prices are already up and have been for some time. My go to spot for PRS is no longer my go to spot as their prices have been nuts. I'm not paying 3699 for a plain every day custom 24 or 5 grand for a 30th anniv.

I would say my guitar buying days are done for some time. I still don't have a LP, and well, we know why I won't be buying one of those anytime soon. But I was hoping for a DGT or SC. But not at current prices. No thanks.

Wait a while and my guess is that the FX rate will swing back and then you will have bargains, like Canada enjoyed for a numbers of years in the not too recent past, when buying US imported goods
