I am getting serious about buying a Hollowbody II - I have found what I think is a good deal on 2 new guitars - one was manufactured in 2011 ans one was manufactured in 2012. These are both stock guitars.

Do any of you know what differences there are between Hollowbody II's manufactired in 2014 vs 2011 ans 2012?

Any help is appreciated.

I don´t know the exact years but i´ll give it a try, hopefully someone will chime in and clarify all this in a more exact manner.

The first change was the pickups, at some point they went from archtops to 57/08´s. In year 2010 the 25th anniversary came with a center block under the bridge and both pickups like a Gibson 335 and also binding on the neck and body. I understand that following the 25th anniversary, from year 2011 until today, PRS went back to the one just before the 25th anniversary. That is: 57/08´s, a single post under the bridge only, Piezo as a standard feature (not optional) and No binding on the neck but i believe it has binding on the body, not sure though.

Hope that helps.

The 2012 I used to have definitely had neck binding too.

The bird inlays will be slightly different too - the inner material on 2011/12s was a bronze-esque solid 'fill' which has been replaced from 2013 with something more MOP-like (but probably not actually MOP).

Thanks for the feedback. I definitely want the 57/08's and the Piezo so this could be a "deal breaker" for me if both of these are not on the guitar

Please excuse my ignorance - but what exactly is "neck binding"????

I own a 2011 HBII. The only option on it is a 10 top and back. It is a true hollowbody with only a little mahogany post under the bridge. It has 57/08's, piezo, neck binding, and the "bronze-esque solid fill" birds that Whitecat described. It's a great guitar! I recommend it. (I like the 57/08's a lot and also own a Stripped 58 with the same pickups.)

Just communicated with PRS customer service and they confirm that there are no significant differences between the 2011manufactured Hollowbody II's and the current version. For me this is good news!

Inching closer to the finish line on the 2011- just one minor issue left to work out. Stay tuned. Thanks for your input.
