I decided to switch from 10's to 9's on my 2014 S2 Custom 22 - wanting more ability to bend. So after the re-stringing, the bridge is now rattling when I use the trem. This rattle wasn't present before the string change...

I thought maybe the trem needed tightening up, but when I got out the Allen wrench and proceeded to tighten up the trem, it actually didn't need tightening at all.

I didn't do anything except change the strings. So not sure what could be causing this newfound rattle.. Any ideas?

Thanks!!

The only thing I can think of is that the thinner strings, which cause less tension, are causing your trem springs in the cavity underneath to be a little too loose now. Maybe remove a spring (especially if you still have all four in there), adjust claw screws to get float back to where it should be.

Can you describe the rattle? Does it sound like something is loose? There isn't much there that I can think of that would cause a rattle. Sticking with the springs, as mentioned above, and chance one of them came off when you had the strings off? That could rattle around in the trem cavity.

Also check the saddles if they moved towards the back of the trem. Maybe the intonation adjustment screws rattle if the were moved while restringing??

The rattle only happens when the trem is pulled downward - i.e. the plate is slightly hitting the body.

I'll check the saddles - thanks!

If that doesn't work, it might be time to take it in to the tech and let him do his thing. I want the action lowered a tad, anyway - so could be tech time..

Thanks for the replies and suggestions!
