Brand new to PRS and looking for some tips. I’ve been playing since I was 8 years old. Played in a few bands in my teens and 20’s. Had some commercial success. I currently have (had) two electrics. A Fender 62 re-issue Strat owned since the late 90’s and owned a couple Les Pauls dating back to the mid 80’s. Loved both, until last week when I received a fairly new PRS Santana SE in a trade. I know it is Korean made, but from the moment I picked it up, I was in love.

I am looking at two upgrades to meet my needs. Ordered new pickups (Seymour Duncan SH1 B 59) and am ready to order PRS locking tuners as the stock tuners can’t keep it in tune.

I am delusional putting this kind of money into the Korean made guitar? Please give your thoughts I have a thick skin.

Not at all delusional. There's a very long thread dedicated to SE mods. Some of us have gladly put big effort into them.

I'd bet most of your tuning issues are due to the nut, so I'd have that replaced or at least checked by a good luthier first.

The SE locking tuners are really great though and I highly recommend them.

Not at all. When you find a fine base that receives upgrades well, you aren’t wasting money making it into exactly what you desire. I offer one tip though; hold onto the original parts. Often, if you go to trade it or sell it, if you don’t have the original parts you will lose out on value. That happened to me. Who could have guessed that a student model hollow body would become mildly collectible?
