I would not mind getting this for my son to use.
He only has a few pedals now that I gave him (no pedal board), and this thing could take the place of many pedals.

Premier Guitar just released some news on it today.

I used to be anti-processors until recently. Lugging a pedal board and a heavy tube amp around got old.

Now I'm using a VOX Tonelab LE and I'm pretty happy with the tone - it's effects and features are slightly lacking, but the tone is great - it truely sounds like a tube amp.

If I were you, I'd also look at a Boss GT-10 as well. My bro-in-law has one, and if I were to buy any other processor, that would be it. It's great.

It's a nice piece of gear, actually.

I prefer analog for OD and distortion, but as far as I'm concerned, digital for everything else is just fine, as long as it's good quality. And say what you like about Boss gear, it always works, and it sounds pretty darn good.

You can always put your favorite analog OD and distortion ahead of this thing (or after it), if you later decide that a combination system is the way to go.

I'm not even a snob about OD/Dist stuff at all, and I love multiFX processors and digital modeling, but I was not impressed with the COSM preamps in my old GT6. I'd look at an older GT3 for your son if you wanna get him something like this, shouldn't be more than $100(-).

Heck, even a Zoom G3.

Yeah, he has a small Fender Mustang One now, but I may end up giving him my Blackstar HT5R-H head, and the Orange 1x12 Celestion Vintage 30 cab.
I have to many amps, and I have a new one showing up tomorrow.
Might even give him my Micro Cube amp, as I like the Yamaha THR 10X better.

None of my amps I have currently though need any distortion or hi gain pedals in front of them, they all have nice dirty channels on them that can put out tons of hi gain.

This is my view as well. I have an ME-50 and love the chorus, pahse, flange, delay effects. The wah wah is OK, but the distortion effects are, IMHO, terrible. So use real fuzz/distortion pedals and a new wah.

The main drawback is the limit on the number of effects active at once.

Last year I did a LOT of work trying to find an FX pedal that I could mess with at home. I tried an awful lot, pretty much everything under £250. I finally bought the Zoom G5.

The effects and amp models are really authentic sounding. It's highly customisable, has some great features (drum machine, looper and records well to a PC). The Boss pedal I tried (ME-70) sounded a bit too digital for my liking. Worth a look though YMMV.

That would really be great for my daughter. She needs a few more effects to go with her marshall and orange amps. Birthday is in April ......

I hold true degree of preference for distortion and OD. It is a nice approach to choose digital for everything else. Boss gear also works fine, as well.
