My younger daughter is turning one next week, and she is proving to be all about music even at this early age. She loves it. The first thing she probably heard was my wife's bass blasting out of her SVT 8x10 rig while she was still in the womb, so it makes sense.

I am going to buy her some bongos, just some cheapies at Guitar Center today because it's right by Ikea, where I'm going anyway to get an organizer for her room. Rumor is there's also a big sale on PRSi going on at Guitar Center. I suppose it won't hurt to look while I'm there.

Last night she ate BBQ for the first time and liked it. She's proving to be a pretty cool little kid. We'd have to kick her out of the family if she didn't like BBQ or music.

That rocks! My daughter (2.75 years old) also loves the drums. She destroys our drummer's kit on a regular basis. The world needs more awesome drummers, especially female, so I'm encouraging it. Your daughter will need a practice partner soon--that means more practice time for you, too. In your house, it sounds like you need a drummer most of all. Skip the bongos and pint sized kits and get her a full Neil Peart setup!

I have no idea where we would put that! It would take up the whole living room!

Drums are an easy pleaser for kids. This photo is a good two years old now, but here's my other daughter who doesn't hesitate to go in the band room and make a racket.

Well, they had a decent set of bongos for $40 but they must have weighed 8 or 10 pounds. A 20 lb baby would have trouble with that. We found a percussion set from First Act at Toys R Us.

They also had a DGT standard in black for a ridiculous price, like a brand new guitar for the price of a used one. The guy asked if he could get it down for me, and I said, "I think that would be a bad idea."

I bought my son some bongo several years ago and he didn't take to them like I had hoped. I would've had better luck with a kiddy percussion set when he was younger.

We have a little play area for the kids in the corner of the living room, and there's a child size metal table from Ikea. It has a nice throooong sound when you slap your hand on it, and the little one will go over there and beat on it for 10 minutes at a time. That's what gave me the bongos idea, but I bet the percussion set will be even better because then the older one can jam along.

Cute. Looks like she's gonna be a singing drummer...the world needs a lot more of those.
