Ok, so the wife and I decide to take in the Virginia Highland games today. In preparation, on the way we stop at the ATM. I withdraw $200.00 for travel money, admissions, etc.. I get my receipt and my card, but the ATM is beeping like crazy at me. I double check to make sure I have my card.
150 miles away, I go into my wallet to get the admission fee and expecting to see lots of twenties, I see only a few ones.
Holy %}*{%}*#€£{€, where the hell is my money????
At that point I realize it is still at the ATM. At least that is where I left it!
Man, I cannot describe how stupid I felt or how bummed I was. That had to be one of the stupidest thing I have ever done. As my wife and I discuss my idiocy, one of the men at the entry table says the he heard that ATMs will suck the money back in if you don't take it right away.
So, 11 1/2 hours later I get to where I can call the bank 800 number and tell my tale of woe to the phone teller. She puts me on hold. She comes back and says that the money had indeed been sucked back into the ATM. She takes my info and files a claim which could take up to 10 business days to resolve.
The outlook is much more hopeful as I type this. At least I know that whoever visited the ATM after me didn't get a lucky, untraceable windfall at my expense.
I'll post the outcome when it happens.
The ATM Gods appear to have been watching over me today.
