Haven't seen anyone on the forum post about one of these yet, so here you go.
Aesthetically, this is the most difficult guitar to photograph that I own. Blood Orange is absolutely STUNNING in-person. When I saw this color debut, I knew I was in trouble. In these shots, yeah, it looks cool, but in person it's a different story. The red it literally fresh blood red - it's deep and mesmerizing, and the oranges in the highlights really pop. In pictures it just kinda looks like a red guitar
Maybe some outdoor shots are in order...
Sound-wise, I think the blurb on the PRS web site is spot-on: "The 2014 Custom 24 Semi-Hollow has all of the versatility and reliability of the Core Custom. The addition of a chambered, semi-hollow body gives this guitar added midrange and resonance while losing none of the instrument’s tried-and-true character."
First and foremost, it's a Custom 24. You will never mistake this for a jazzbox. I didn't really understand at first why they put 59/09s in this - on paper I would have thought the 57/08s would have been better suited. Dummy. Paul & company know what they are doing. It's definitely a moderately aggressive guitar, and you never lose that Custom 24-ness, which is really a good thing. The closest cousin I have is my CU24 Throwback - hog/maple, uncovered 59/09s (but no squabbins) and the SH is a bit tamer in comparison, withe the mids you would expect from the hollow-ness.
I feel very fortunate to have been able to bring her into my stable, and I'm confident that she'll be around for a long, long, long, long time. Hopefully a few more others out here will pick one up and share their thoughts
