Blasphemy?!?

So, I'm flipping channels and come across a John Mayer concert on MTVL (formerly Palladia) from 2007. Decide to watch it, and dig it. Admittedly, I don't own much of his music, but I am familiar with his career "track", both musically and in the media. Saw him at one of the Crossroads shows in Chicago. I know how much talent/skill he has. As I'm watching this concert I keep thinking, "this dude has MONSTER skills" but doesn't "show them off." He keeps it under raps with his penchant for "pop" music. All of a sudden I draw a parallel.....hmmmm, he's kinda like Clapton. Wait, no way! Dude, Clapton is GOD! Step back and think about it for a couple of songs. The more I listen the more I think he is a "modern day" version of EC. Could be worse guys to "pass the torch to". Flame on.........

Clapton hinself called Mayer a "Master Guitarist", so i doubt he would have any reservations passing him the torch.

Earlier in his career I remember John talking about stealing from Clapton. He did it very well.
