Hello brothers
i really dig this color but I rarely seen a PRS in this stain that has
scraped binding, it seems the majority are wraparound choice
Can anyone shed some light on this?
thanks

The colour is black gold wrap, so no scraped binding and the base colour extends around to the back/neck of the guitar.

There have been a couple of examples of black gold with a scraped binding but from memory they were Sprayers Choice or PS.

Of course. In my experience you are right. Black Gold, Black Gold Burst, Black Gold Wraparound and so on are only available with the same coloured edge and binding.
I suggest Custom Colour or even Private Stock will deal with scrapped binding!

I even saved the images I liked it so much:

That's my point justmund the scraped binding looks so cool on this color
so what I'm really asking is why they they chose the wrap option?
I don't think this stain is any harder to apply than the others, plus it gives a very vintage
and classic vibe IMO

Edit: plus it's one of the few colors that suits the dirt birds and makes tolerate
them YMMV of corsécorsé

g.wizz: nice point.
To me personally it was core to have a guitar with an outlook of a violin or a cello. This instruments don't come with scrapped bindings. The colour Black Gold fits well to my specs or this image I had in mind.

The reason Blackgold is a wrap finish except for PS and special runs is that their is bleeding in the stain process that they cannot sand (scrape) off without considerable more time and expense. I know this because I wanted this exact finish with scraped binding and the answer I have provided was the answer the PRS Rep learned when he inquired for my dealer.

Black gold wrap is one of my favorite PRS colors, and I had it on my Artist V. I think it looks elegant without the faux binding.

Dipped in caramel!

But we're all different, and the faux bindings look great, too.

I remember that I read something to that effect a year or two ago, and i saw some with faux binding at different dealers but they were few and far between, but the ones i saw weren't PS, hence the confusion.

I agree with you Mart that this color and image harkens back to the traditional Violin look that is ingrained in our memories

This is my 2011 Black Gold. No burst, no wrap, only BG.

First picture: no flash, in house, artificial light (3 light spots at the ceiling)

And the back with flash - red is dominating...

... and without flash. Brown is back.

The following pictures have been taken in my garden end of January 2015. Central European weather conditions.

The different shades on the top result from actual daylight (I guess it was around 3 pm).

I may have a very traditional point of view: If the guitar´s top, edge and back have got the same colour, than a scrapped binding would look like a foreign matter. It would cut the harmony. If top, edge and back colour are different, a scrapped binding has the fuction of a passage or a border from one colour to another.

For years I wondered why they didn't make a black gold Custom 24 with binding, so when the chance came I just had to preorder it, I love it!

It's a wood library by the way

BTW black gold and charcoal are the only 2 colors i can tolerate the dirt birds with
And they look great with your 513 Mart.

@gwardealy: Black Gold AND quilted: NICE! NICE! NICE!

@g.wizz: I had no chance choosing other birds than dirt birds.
A few may be the opinion a real 513 is only real with 513 birds. I don't like 'em.
Therefore I'm lucky with those dirty birds.
