Hello, I have a new 2025 model SE Hollowbody Standard Piezo and am getting blackened fingertips every day after only 2 to 3 hrs practice. It says it is an ebony board, but wondering now if it has been dyed to make it appear darker? I love the guitar btw and the 'dye' washes off my fingers easy enough, so I'm just curious as to the PRS fretboard finishing process. Is this normal on their Ebony boards? Thanks

That's a New SE Thing. I'm not convinced the scuzz doesn't come from the strings or frets. Anyway, wipe stuff down as suggested above and it'll be a distant memory before long.

Fret polish that hasn't been completely cleaned off can do that, too.
Yes I get the feeling the guitar had only just been made as shop had to order it from factory, and the spec is new and not even on the PRS website yet. So maybe it's just excess oil - but black. It is slightly less black now after 2 weeks with guitar.

What strings?
How many hours on these "new" strings?
Do it do it when you first re-strung it or was it a progression?
Don't know - PRS own strings from factory, it's the fretboard though as no black comes off the strings when I wipe them down. It's more grey than black now after 2 weeks

PRS Classics are nickel-plated steel wrap...
Try wiping the underside of the strings...
Maybe you wore through the plating on the wound strings.

Did it do it when you first got it or was it a progression?

Yes I was getting black on my fingers from day one with it, the longer I practiced the blacker they got. Never had this on my other guitars

My guess would be it is the dye used on the ebony to make it look more consistent, perhaps with a combination of your own personal body chemistry making it more evident.

I've told this story before, but a friend would give me cash for new strings every time he played my guitar because by the next day, no matter how well I wiped the strings down, they would start to rust. He basically sweated acid. (Pun intended.)

Are you overseas? I’m wondering if there’s some factor we’re unaware of.
No here in Norfolk UK
Well, that's "overseas" to the US-centric community here, since PRS is a US company.

But in this case, because it is an SE, we're all "overseas" from the factory, unless we live in Indonesia.

I've had that happen with an Epiphone that had a Pau Ferro fretboard, but never and guitar with Ebony.

And I appreciate the darker look of Ebony, but would be disappointed if PRS was dyeing them, even on an SE
