Knows the Drill
My dad asked me to write something and put together a video showcasing some black and white 35mm photos he took on a trip to Wyoming a couple years ago. He got his old school Nikon out for the first time in a long time, which was pretty cool. He sent the negatives in to a service that converts them to digital, just to have them in that format as well, unfortunately the quality of that conversion was, in my opinion, not the greatest. On the bright side, it allowed me to edit the photos and adjust the lighting, etc., and the resolution gives them a little of that old timey feel.
He asked me to write something in the style of one of his favorite bands, I'll let y'all guess who that is, I'm sure it won't take very long! It's an unconventional choice for the theme, but fun. I had intended to put vocals on it, but he told me later he didn't want any. Might still do it someday just for kicks.
The nitty gritty: loads of PRS gear on this track. Silver Sky into the Custom 50, plenty of the 594 into HDRX 20, and Horsemeat boost when called for, among some other things. I used several vintage style impulse responses, including some that I wouldn't usually use, like G12-65's in a Suhr cab, a Weber 12F150 in a cab I made, and a Dave Friedman capture of a 4x12 Greenback loaded cab. Also used the new mastering plugin in Logic, which did a nice job for a quick and easy solution.
My wife and I actually just got back from the same place about a month ago, so at some point I'll probably have my own photos (and more music) to share.
