I have an Archon and am lookig for a new 212. Does anyone have an experience with both of these and have any opinions? I play metal, hardcore and pop punk.
For your style, I'd go with a birch ply cab, and not the pine cab. I think you'll find the birch a little punchier and brighter, with a stiffer bottom end. The pine cab is a little more mellow.
I'd also pick the 4x12 for the styles you play instead of the 2x12, but that's a personal thing.

Agree! If you're looking for something customizable, check out Avatar cabs. Great product at a great price. Plus, a ton of options for you to chose from....speaker, color, piping, grille cloth type, etc.
I was somewhat disappointed with the sound and build quality of the Avatar 4x12 I had in the studio a few years back. However, there is a price to be paid for PRS and other higher end cab quality. At the time I had Bogner and Mesa cabs, and they cost more. So maybe the comparison wasn't all that fair if price is factored in.
And other players might find the Avatars just right. For me, no.
I'd stick with the PRS cab since the head was definitely tested and designed with PRS cabs in mind.
The Big Mouth is akin to the Mesa horiz. Recto 2x12 in sound. And that, IMO, is the de facto metal cab. The PRS sounds huge. The pine 2x12 is a completely different animal and defies the label of "another V30 loaded 2x12". Arguably the best classic rock cab I've found and is the perfect (totally serious) match to PRS amps.

I'd agree with this, though paradoxically I used a Mesa horizontal Recto cab for a long time on non-metal stuff with terrific results. I'm not seeing the Big Mouth 212 on the PRS site at present, so I don't know what the status of the product is.
But for metal I'd swing with a 412 anyway to be able to accommodate down-tuning and some of the other tricks I see metal guys do.
