Best way to preserve Paul's signature

As the title says, I have a control cover plate with Paul's sig as an extra cover for my new 408 MT I just got last week.
I plan on going to the meet and greet when he is at my local store in June, and I would like to get him to sign the blank cover on it as well.

What is the best way to preserve it?
Clear coat spray in enamel or lacquer?
Any particular brand work better, and how many coats?

Bad picture, I had the Sony Cybershot set to macro, should have left it on normal.

Hello Corey,
i've a clear adhesive film on my control plate, it's stronger than lacquer or paint, to avoid marks or scratch with your clothes (and belts)... sorry for my english. Bye!

I worked at a sign shop during my college days and we clear coated everything with Frog Juice. It's made for vinyl I believe but the name makes it worth mentioning...maybe...haha.

Just wondering if you run the risk of something like that peeling off?

I dont know; this on Amazon looks very similar, but looks me like a inkjet sheet to printing; the mine is a film not printable, but strong enough: is on my guitar from many years, never scratched or detached.

I used clear Krylon with mixed results. On the one hand, the sig is protected and you can see it nicely. On the other hand, the cool brushed finish on the control plate is gone and there were some specks of something in there that caused some lumps.

For me it's no big deal because the back of the guitar has seen its fair share of use so imperfections blend in. However, for you it's a brand new guitar. Maybe if I'd prepped it better, or spent the money to have a professional clear coat it, it would look as good as a new guitar deserves.

Corey...if your going to a meet and greet...I would have him sign the back of the headstock on your new 408....looks better on wood

Got Paul to sign my Tremonti at a meet and greet...I was amazed he fit his signature in there next to Mark Tremonti;s sig!! Paul was impressed with the signature and the work the PTC did! Every time I see it while I'm playing it makes me smile bigtime!

Cool, did you have to put anything over both of the sigs?

The PTC refinished over Tremonti's sig....nothing over Paul's yet....eventually it will go to the PTC again to get clear coated

You can get a new back plate from the PRS Store. $34. That's what I'd do. Display the signed one somehow and put the replacement on the guitar.

I just now bought two new backing plates.
One for my 408, and one for my son's SE Semi-Hollow Custom.

Will have Paul sign both stock plates today, and my headstock, then will put the new covers coming back on the guitars.
Son is in school today, so he is only bringing his backing plate so his guitar does not sit in his rig while at school.

I had mine signed on both back of head stock and back plate. I would like to find a clear adhesive. What I like it he used a Gold marker that actually almost matches the factory screening on the front of the head stock.
