Newb in the house. Looking for your collective wisdom and sage advive. I'm targeting a p90 equipped guitar but not sure what the best value is for sub $1,000 price point. What I'm seeing most are: SE 245, older Starla, new Gibson 60's Tribute, even the Fender JA Tele looks interesting. Thanks in advance for any advice or direction.

You're in a PRS forum so that's most likely what this crew is going to favour. A Starla X Soapbar, if you can get one under $1k would be a sweet guitar... that might be my first choice.

Welcome though!

Check out the SE lineup of course, and I'd also highly recommend checking out the Reverend lineup as well....their quality per cost easily matches the SE range, and they offer some different features you won't find elsewhere...

As mention above, we will direct you to a prs. Looks like you got some go info to pursue. I will also agree on the Reverend brand as a second option. Plus for them is their rail hammer pickups and i like how all theie guitars are equipped with locking tuners.

I would suggest looking into a limited run that Seattle Guitar Store is doing on a Mira-Semi Hollow with a Wolfetone P90. Link below.

Personally if you can find one of the old SC Standards I think they are a great value and can be had for around 1k or less (sometimes).

I`m a P-90 fiend. I have 3 SE singlecut P-90`s, all with different hardware and electronics. I am a tinkerer, so I find this platform excellent for doing mods. They all have new nuts, hipshot locking tuners, and locking studs. the 3 ways and pots have all been upgraded. They all sound different. By the time you do the mods, you`re still under your ceiling. I find the necks on PRSi to be better than any of the competition.

Another vote for the P90 Mira, which you may find for under your budget (I found my used core Mira with humbuckers for under that). And other P90 PRSs you may find, in any of the lines.
Other than that, my P90 guitar is a G&L Korina ASAT. I went a bit over your budget on mine, but used G&Ls can often be found for absurdly low prices. There are also some P90 Tribute series.
Finally, I've never owned one, but Godin has some P90 guitars that look very tempting.

Edit: I forgot about Reverends. They have some nice looking P90s for under $1K as well. I've never owned one, though.

I'm not a P90 expert (don't own any) but there is someone that everyone here has heard of, and who has a very good ear (makes GREAT pedals and a great amp). David Barber has said on more than one occasion that he is very fond of the SE P90 pickups and guitars. He told me that he liked the stock SE P90s better than anything he'd tried except very high end stuff. He has several SE P90 guitars and gigs them. He could play anything he wanted, and has said for years that he loves these. And you could probably find them for around half what you want to spend.

There's a Core PRS Singlecut With Soapbar pickups on eBay at the moment for $767. That's a killer guitar for the money. If you like the doublecut PRS body style more, there's a Custom 22 with 3 P-90s and a 10-Top for $1299 on eBay as well. Smoking deal on that one as well.
