Hi all. I'm a seasoned player looking to get a PRS guitar. I want to be able to fingerpick (classic rock covers & Gospel) and play mostly clean and country sounding tones & melodic sounding leads. (currently on a Strat) Will I be compromising if I get a Solid body (or semi solid)? Are the neck widths the same? Can I pull off good fingerpicking on the solid body, or am I better off getting a Hollow body for that reason??

Thanks,
-Fred S

Not compromising at all with a solid body. Look at Mark Knopfler or Richie Kotzen.

DGT would be a great starting point for you - classic humbucker sounds, very good taps to single coils, slightly wider neck at the nut. The Silver Sky will deliver all the single coil sounds you’d expect - and some you wouldn’t - but the 7.5” radius might not be your cup of tea for fingerpicking. You can also look into a Holland or Brent Mason on the used market - both of those guys do a fair amount of hybrid picking.

I finger pick my hollowbody, semi hollow, double cuts, single cut. There is no noticeable difference in my ability to do so with any of them. There are subtle differences in neck widths, but most of the neck differences on PRS are the carve of the back of the neck.

The DGT alantig suggested wouldn’t be a bad place to start. I would probably try that and a hollowbody first.

And welcome to the forum.

Thanks, guys! Guess I gotta play a lot more of them to see what fits me best. Comforting to know you both think that you can play that kinda style on all PRS models, so if i'm hearing you correctly, I won't be limiting my "playing ability" by one model over the other.

Definitely not.

Nope - not at all. I think you'll find that these guitars are very versatile and can cover pretty much any territory you want to cover.

And if not, we can always send you down the path of pickup swaps...

Welcome aboard!

I alternate between pick and finger style and my Special has served me more than well. This video demonstrates it nicely.

Welcome to the forum.

Look at some of the recent Bryan Ewald product demo videos on you tube. He plays some lovely finger style on various models.

Yo, thanks again guys! I just bought a Custom 24 10 top. After playing various models, this is the one I chose. Super hard to put down! Getting used to it at home, very excited to have it. Thanks for the encouragement!!
Nice!
