Hey guys, so this my first post on the forums but you all seem nice so hopefully this will be a good experience. I have been researching nonstop for the last week or so because I have decided to buy an electric guitar & want to get a good one, good enough that I won't have to get another one in 2 years because it's falling apart or just not sounding good enough. This will be my first electric as previously I have only played acoustic. I finally narrowed it down to one brand, Paul Reed Smith, because of how well they're built, & the SE line, because of budget limitations.
I am going to be playing classic country & 50's rock n' roll mostly, with a little classic rock, & basically a bit of everything (except metal) thrown in. I was thinking that single coils would probably be best for that country twang, but I want it to have enough balls to be able to play rock n' roll as well so do I need a humbucker for that? I'm really just not sure. Which of the SE's would you recommend?

Custom 24 or 22 depending on which neck profile fits you best. If a trem is a must have then the 24.

Surprised no one has mentioned the Soapbar (PRS SE 245 w/p90 pick ups).

Custom 24 is the classic "do it all" PRS axe.

Of the current lineup, I think that's the way to go. The humbuckers will do great for rock and it has the push-pull coil split so you can get the brighter single coil tones for country.

Something with soapbars is a great idea, too. Very versatile pickups.

For what you are playing I would have to say a SE Semi hollow soapbar (not in current production) or the SE 245 Soapbar.

The most flexible current PRS SE model is probably a Custom 24, with the coil taps, trem, and extended fretboard range. However, for your purposes, a 245 Soapbar may be a better fit, especially if you don't need a trem.
