I feel bad that "Cheyenne" got kinda ignored with all of the excitement re: my PS20th and CE24. During the great purge of 2015, she fulfilled my wish for a "not too fancy 22-fret 85/15 stoptail that I could play everyday without intense fear of it being irreplaceable" guitar.
She originally came from MSL (beauty shots below) but I got her used for a really good price on Reverb (after unloading a few Strats that were gathering dust). She was advertised as "mint" and DAMN, seriously, not a scratch on her. After I cleaned the pickup covers off, she looked absolutely brand new. She still smells new too.
Cheyenne is sporting a custom color ("CC") MODCAT code apparently because she is dressed in a Blood Orange Wrap - no natural binding - pretty cool. Blood Orange is one of my favorite PRS colors - and this one is definitely more "blood" than orange - it's soooo red in person, it's like someone just literally bled all over. In a cool way. It's not gross...
My Jack Gretz WL McCarty (which is MAGICAL) definitely has more midrange (with the maple neck and Paul's brass-insert stoptail) but Cheyenne's all-'hoginess wins for throatiness and bottom end. I love these damn 58/15 / 85/15s. Sustain is off-the-charts with this one as well - definitely in my top 5.
I was never a McCarty dude, mostly because of the vintage-style tuners. I almost picked up an MC58 a few years ago. Now, the new McCartys with the Phase III tuners and 58/15s are fast becoming my new favorite.
