Bass Pup in Bridge Slot

One of my all-time favorite PRS guitars ('89 SIG LE) has a Vintage Bass, by design, in the bridge position.

The new Collection electric (series 4) has a 408 bass in the bridge position.

I am thinking about trying a #8 bass in the bridge position of my SE One. I'm curious if anyone here has experimented with Bass pups in the bridge position.

I'm a little surprised to report that I don't really know the difference between "matching" neck and bridge pickups other than the number of windings.

When I was building "skateboard guitars" for my old band I would use whatever pickups I had, and I used an ESP bass 'bucker in the bridge of my personal #1, sounded just like a bridge pickup is supposed to. (to me)

Pickup makers like Fralin don't bother distinguishing. An 8K humbucker could be neck or bridge depending on what other pickup you paired it with.

I have tried a few BASS pups in the bridge. They can sound great there. During my shootout I took the advice from a friend in the Gibby Restoration Dept & put a Burstbucker 1 (normally used in the neck) in the bridge & the tone was pure PAF rock 'n roll. LOVED it there! I'm pretty sure in the old days, there was no difference in neck or bridge pups. They just popped whatever they had laying around in the gtrs.

I've often times thought of putting my Dragon bass pickup from my CU22 into the bridge position of my McCarty just to hear it.

The first law of music is: "Whatever sounds good, is good" I don't think there any others. GO FOR IT MAN! Just mod your gtr so that the toggle switch slides the pickup forward and backward. One pickup, problem solved!!! (Ha,ha)
