Hi,
on my further search for the perfect components for a private stock I am a bit unsure about the topic pickups.
I am quite confident that it should be an uncovered metal pickup on the bridge but having heard close to nothing about the neck metal pickup and being a fan of the 58/15s or 57/08s in the neck I am considering one of those (covered) for the neck position.
My question is: is it a good idea to mix two of these pickups or will I have issues with the sound of the middle position (with or without coil split), or drastic volume differences between them? I would think the guitar gains a lot versatility with this mix, but maybe just the two metal pickups would also do it?
Maybe someone has some experience with this.
Thanks!

I think you’d be fine with either of those in the neck. The \m/ pick up is so versatile and has great clarity.

As Bodia said, the \m/ pickup is very versatile. It cleans up -and taps - very nicely. I pulled out my PS tonight, which has the \m/s in both spots. The neck pup on about 3 through the clean channel of my Archon sounded nearly acoustic.

I have a 5708 neck pickup with my \m/ bridge and it’s fantastic. 5909 works well too.

Maybe it's just consequent to go with both in bridge and neck since the neck seems to sound nicely clean aswell. Are your Metal-Pickups covered or uncovered? I sometimes like the mix of uncovered in the bridge and covered in the neck.

Do you hear a significant volume drop when switching between the pickups due to the different output level?

I went with both uncovered. And I had push-pull coil taps put on as well. Added a few extra options and a nice bit of snap and sparkle when playing clean.

Mine are both uncovered. No volume drop, I don’t usually play clean on the bridge pickup and often have the neck pickup at around 5(2 volume knobs) when under high gain to have milder gain settings.
