Well tonight was the first rehearsal of the new band. I think we were all a little apprehensive as some of us hadn’t played in bands for a number of years. Back story: The band was formed to play a charity night, as a colleague and a colleague’s husband have both beaten testicular Cancer. We decided to play some covers that the audience could dance to, so the set list is mainly Soul/Groove based songs. We all gathered at our practice venue this evening and to our pleasant surprise, we made acceptable progress, running through half of a 12 song set. Don’t get me wrong, we were by no means “tight”, but for a first rehearsal it was very promising and everyone went away buzzing. Line up is 2 guitars, Bass, Drums, 4 vocals (2 Female, 2 Male) and Trumpet. We can cover quite a lot with that. Everyone is really enthusiastic and excited to be playing music, so ideas are flowing. There’s hard work to be done, but that’s part of the fun of having those light bulb moments, when things really start to gel. Epilogue: So I got home tonight and we were talking via a group chat I’ve set up for the band. A couple of the guys were having a wee dram before turning in. I joked that I would be having one too and they said go for it. One of the guys joked: “We’re a bad influence!” and then said: “How about the band name?!” Could it be that easy?
