I would have a talk with your friend. Let him know that you are having extreme emotional distress not being able to declare and NGD in your sense of the acronym. Explain to him that if he were to give you the guitar, it would make that issue completely vanish, and he would get full credit for the kind act (if he is Catholic, explain to him that such acts can even lead to sainthood). You may also want to let him know that his insurance rates for his collection will go down, so he is actually saving money by giving it to you! If all that fails, abuse it just enough to make it unattractive to him, but still playable and acceptable to you!!
