Artist Package question

Recently I tried a Hollowbody II - beutiful guitar - nice and light - however didnt like the painted neck.

I see that with an Artist Package I can choose a maple neck as an option - would suit me.

Question - is an Artist Package order the same as a Private Stock order, or is it an "intermediate" stage between production and private stock"

What are the extra costs - there is no 2014 price list on site and the 2013 price list gives a "not found" error.

PS - would have to order from Australia so dont have the advantages of you US guys.

Thanks

The maple necks have a finish, it's infused into the wood in some special way. The Rosewood necks are not finished.

There's an upcharge for Artist package, but you get some nice stuff - Artist grade top, neck and fingerboard woods, hardware choices, etc, and a nicer case. However, it's a production guitar. The Private Stock is truly custom and far more expensive.

If you do a search on PRS Artist Package guitars, you'll see relative price differences between the guitars at various dealers.

Quality and materials wise I think of them as an intermediate stage between production and private stock. I own both. Some artist guitars are much nicer than private stocks i've played and vice versa. Paying extra will not guarantee you a superior instrument every time.

I think it is safe to call this an intermediate step between a production USA and Private Stock. As opposed to a Private Stock, where all bets are off, there are only certain items that can be customized on an Artist Package. I just ordered an Artist Package last week, and I am very happy with the options that were available. If you're still interested, give a call to one of the several great dealers listed in the Authorized Dealer section. They'll be able to quote you prices.

I'm in Australia - so would need to find a US dealer who will ship to me here.

Not many "dealers" here in OZ and they charge pretty high prices anyway.

Cheaper to take a quick trip to Japan to buy - more choice as well.
