I know the Blistertone is one channel, and I know this has been discussed before. I just can't get the Blistertone out of my head though, when I see them pop up for sale. Does anyone here have enough experience with both to compare the character and tone of the gain channel of the Archon vs. the Blistertone? I'd love to have a CAD amp and have always been interested in the BT and MDT. Of course, playing them could either change my mind or convince me it was a must have, and I just can't find either to play, but they do occasionally pop up for sale.

How similar/different are the Blistertone and Archon? If it's really very similar then I already have something "better" in the Archon because it has two channels. But you know how this "what if" game goes... and I don't just buy them all to collect. I want 1-2 more amps, and they need to be "great" for me, in order to make the cut. These aren't in the "buy it to try it" price range, like the HDRX20 was.

Here's a good demo of it. Different from the Archon, more 'Texas' and vintage -sounding IMHO. Might as well hear it instead of hearing folks talk about it. The amp would be more my style than an Archon - and there's an NOS one floating around at Wildwood I spotted that makes me breathe hard.

The worst darn thing is I could live with this instead of the HXDA and not feel I made a sacrifice. I should never watch this video again, because it tempts me!

Ok, that's the best demo I've ever heard for the amp and... I think I want one!

Doug Sewell's CAD amps (as well as his original Sewell amps) are in that "ultra" category that comes along very rarely, even in this day and age of ten zillion makers of pretty darn cool amps.

You get this authoritative, 'that's what I'm talkin' about' tone that stays with you (at least it stays with me, anyway).

The amp reminds me a little of the HXDA, but where the HXDA is 'loose' like a good Plexi, the Blistertone is tighter and more focused. Sounds tremendous to me. I kinda wish I hadn't already burned the gear budget for the year, because that NOS one at Wildwood is pretty tempting.

IF you can find and CAD Sewell amp in good order you''ll be smiling . The Blistertone is more edgey than my Blue Sierra 50 , which I adore.
FYI there is a paisley HXDA 50 , and a 100 at Dave's
