Archon MADNESS is on FULL THROTTLE...

Some Clips...

Ok I finally uploaded some clips. Unfortunately every type of streaming service just compresses everything too much and you can't really hear the tone of the amp very well. But I know a lot of people are curious to hear this thing and possibly on the fence about purchasing. So the best I could come up with is to let people download them from DropBox and play them through your iTunes or whatever. But streaming them from DropBox, YouTube, etc just makes them sound too generic.

I have to say that it's with much hesitation that I post these. I am not Chris Reynolds, John Ucol, or any of the other highly talented musicians on this forum. But I love distortion and can dial in a few good tones here and there. So please temper your impressions of the amp and not view the clips as the amp's full potential, but rather "here's how the amp can sound when a common amateur rock/metal noodler plays it." Then you can extrapolate from there and get an idea of how it will sound in truly awesome hands.

Again please don't base any love/hate decisions based on these clips. There are too many variable that go into capturing amp tone, many of which I am still learning.

All tracks are straight up amp, NO effects, boosts, post-production, or mastering. There is one exception, on Kryptonite there is a clean chorus for verse one, that is the lone effect. Most of the clips consist of only two tracks, right and left. For solos there are 3 tracks going. So the clips are pretty raw and not heavily layered.

Signal chain was:
PRS 408 or PRS DGT--->PRS Archon (50w)--->Mesa 2x12 Recto Cab--->Audix i5 close mic'ed on center of top speaker--->Apogee Ensemble--->Logic Pro X.

Some may be disappointed that I didn't choose all 'Metal' songs. Metal is so diversified these days, I wanted to play things that were somewhat familiar, but lather them in heaviness. So I apologize for the lack of Carcass. I'll bet JFB will post those when his arrives.

Oh and all of these were mixed with headphones, so they will sound best that way.

Thanks, Blackbird! Great stuff - and it really shows how versatile this amp is.

I appreciate the demonstration of a lot of different styles too. I'm all over the place from a genre perspective and you definitely showed that the Archon could keep up!

I kind of dig the Ozzy RR tones. Almost sounds better tone wise. The VH tone also sounds close to his over gained out modern day live tone the way you have it dialed in.

Glad you liked it! :top:

Thanks! It's really a versatile amp. It's not as crazy gainy as the 5150 Red Channel that I think Ed plays, but it easily gets into that sizzling or brutal territory. I'm curious how it sounds through some Greenbacks, all I have is these two V30's.

Mine should be here on Tuesday. I've got a Scumback BM75 loaded 412 that I can try it with along with my V30 cab. Just about any gainy amp can sound a little VHish through that Scumback cab.

Thanks for taking the time to do all those clips! I think some of the gained out VH type tones is enhanced by the i5 mic as it has a lot of highs and lows in its coloration. I have a love/hate relationship with that mic:D

No problem! It's been so much fun getting to know this amp. I finally opened up the full 100w today and it is beastly!!
I agree about the i5, it seems to capture the rawness of most amps. I tried a few clips with a SM7B but they kept coming out too dark.
This amp is going to fit a lot of people's styles, I can't wait to hear what others can do with it.

Mine arrives tomorrow as well, and my Parker 7-string should be here soon too. Can you say...
