Archon Footswitch Pop?

I recently purchased an Archon, which I'm enjoying very much. The amp does, however, make a quite noticeable popping sound whenever I use the footswitch to toggle between channels. Is this normal?

Thanks in advance for your help.

This may not apply to the Archon, but I had a Mesa Mark V that popped when switching channels. It didn't bother me much, but I bought a second footswitch for it to have one at the outside studio I was doing a lot of work in to minimize the amount of stuff I needed to move back and forth (had a second pedalboard there).

Oddly enough, the amp didn't pop with the second footswitch.

Doing some experimentation revealed that the initial problem wasn't in the footswitch, it was in the cable that came with it. Yet everything on the footswitch worked perfectly with the amp. There was just the popping. Go figure!

Not saying this is your issue, but I'd check everything.

Very interesting. It's too bad the cable is hard-wired into the stock pedal, since that all but eliminates the possibility of checking them separately. Fortunately the pop isn't so bad that I can't live with it as is.

Thanks for the info.

I'd give PRS customer service a call, just because the amp is under warranty.

Thanks for posting your experience with this head/pedal, since I've been seriously considering picking one of these up!

I have a Line 6 SpiderValve MKII that is doing the same thing. Apparently a common issue with the MKII, as I found out after purchasing the head. My previous MKI version had no such issues. Thankfully I'm able to minimize the popping sound by programming my head/shortboard controller's volume positions for both the channel and volume pedal on the shortboard.

It may not bother some, but it bothers me because I gig with my half stack and I have been looking elsewhere for a replacement due to the issue.
