A few people over on FB posting that their dealers have told them the the Archon amp is discontinued...surely that's a mistake?!?
Well, they're all still on the website and are in 2016 product catalog. I sure hope not.
For all the positive buzz they've been getting (a LOT), I would be very surprised if this were true. Unless they were upgrading it, like what happened with the 2 channel H and Custom 50.
I've started to warm to the idea of a 100 watt head and 2x12, so it better not be true!
I have a brand new 100w head sitting in my shop. Call me... I will give you a great deal on it.
The Archon being discontinued would be news to me
I heard from my Sweetwater rep that if someone were interested in an Archon that it would be in their best interest to wait until NAMM, so perhaps it's not being discontinued, just something being added that would be in a similar vein.
They (Sweetwater) don't have any Archon 100's in stock at the moment.
This tells you EXACTLY why the guy said to hold off. He has nothing in stock and doesn't want you to buy from someone who does.
Forgive my cynicism here, but we've already heard from James at PRS that the Archon isn't going to be discontinued.
So maybe another product is in the works, so what. If you're interested in a 100 Watt Archon, why would something like a lunchbox amp (the oft-rumored Tremont 5 Watter, etc) even be of interest?
Since Sweetwater accepts orders for products they don't have in stock I don't think it would make sense to tell someone to wait unless something comparable was around the corner. I don't think anything has been confirmed on the Tremonti lunchbox head, but perhaps there is another high gain 100w head in the works. While the Archon would obviously still be a great amp, if we're only a month or two out from another product that might be worth considering its nice to have the options.
"Uhhhh just stopped by my local dealer, they are blowing out their archons for an insane price!"
