Hey, is it safe for the amp if I take the effects send directly to my recording interface to use with impulse responses? I leave the speaker connected and the amp is putting out a little bit of sound, but nowhere near the amount if the effects return brought signal back....

Yes....it is perfectly safe to do what you're doing. I'm kind of surprised that you're hearing something from the amps speaker though....although that is probably from a blend knob or the general design of the circuit.

The important part is that you MUST keep a load on the output section of the amp at all times when it is on. In your case, the load is the speaker(s). Otherwise, you will burn up your output tubes and possibly damage the output tranny. I can go into more detail if needed.

Yup but just remember you'll only be "hearing" the preamp side of the amp, so you'll end up with no power amp interaction.

A better way would be to use a DI box which has speaker in/out, and a direct out. Plenty of inexpensive options e.g ART Zdirect. Hope this helps!

Or a load box. You aren't just missing the power tubes, it's also the output transformer, that is crucially important to an amp's tone. Justmund is right.

Thank you for the responses! I'm using Two-Notes Torpedo Wall Of Sound III which does power amp simulations as well, just making sure I wasn't damaging the amp :)
