Most of the shows I play my P22 for are outdoors in the Florida humidity and heat. I have been using DR Tite-Fits, .011-.050, since I got the P22 earlier this year and I love the way they play. The Tite-Fits, for my other guitars and the PRS prior to the summer, always seemed to last longer, but the last couple sets have turned black on the unwound strings pretty quickly. I am hoping that a coated string might remedy that, so I was thinking of giving the DR Neons a try. But, I am wondering if/how the coating might interact with the piezo pickups. They make the Neons for acoustic too, so I am sure that they would work, but I wonder if they would possibly have a negative impact on the acoustic/piezo tone of the P22.
Has anyone tried using DR Neons with a piezo-equipped PRS (HB, P22/24) and did you find a noticeable difference in tone? Did they last signficantly longer than uncoated strings? I'm almost to the point where I have to change strings before every gig, when I used to get 3-4 gigs out of one set, so I would love to find something that could get me through the summer without drastically changing my tone. Plus, the Neons in yellow or orange might look cool on the McCarty Sunburst finish.
