hi new member here wondering if anyone has ever seen a archtop IV like this. http://img.tweedehands.nl/f/preview/147527415_1-prs-archtop-iv.jpg its a maple back with spruce top which has p90 in it i have never seen before. im also wondering if there are different dimensions for different archtop models. (mentioned elsewhere on this forum) i always thought the hollowbody to be its smaller twin. (at first only in depth now it seems the archtop is twice its size) im wondering before purchase as not to regret buying an archtop instead of a hollow. currently own prs 10 mccarty tabacco sunburst birds prs custom 22 whale blue moon inlay locking tunerens whammy prs eg-4 (limited) all black strat model ibanez jem 7vwh signed with bridge stabilizer and old bridge richwood artist re-129 vanderson steel string lne 6 spider jam peavey vk100 amp+cab engl invader 150 amp+cab thnx bio

Looks like an Archtop 4 that was modified (post production) with P90's in the humbucking platform (like a Phat Cat).

Archtops and Hollowbody models only differ in body thickness. Archtops being thicker (2 3/4" depth at rim, 4" depth at bridge).

this is a archtop scj i think. with a hollowbody. biggerno?

The guitar on the left is the SC-J Thinline. The guitar on the right is a private Stock Hollowbody 2 - both of which are owned by one of our moderators.

While both can be considered arch-top models, the PRS Archtop refers to a specific guitar. The PRS Archtop is just like the HB2 on the right but with a thicker body.

I wouldn't sweat a pickup swap. PRS owners aren't as picky (generally speaking) about solder joints as the vintage crowd.

Prototypes are usually easier to sell. Whether or not they are worth more is open to debate.

In order to get line breaks I simply hit the enter key. If your interface isn't accepting the [Enter} command, try using the HTML for each hard break. It looks like this: <BR><BR>

To make sure you have the right set of controls in the vBulletin software:
1) Click on Settings (top right of the home page after you log in)
2) Click on General Settings (mid-way down the left side of the page)
3) Scroll to the Miscellaneous Settings section at the bottom of the page and change the Message Editor Interface from Basic to Standard. If you want even more editing options, choose Enhanced.

What they said. Those two guitars are mine. I took that pic to illustrate the difference in size between the Hollowbody ahd the SC-Jumbo.

The Archtop will have the same exact outline as the Hollowbody, but it's almost twice as thick.

And like Hans said, I wouldn't sweat a pup change, unless there was also some modification to the wood to accommodate the different pups...

thanks for all the input guys. and i personally do sweat about pup change. not that i give much of a **** but i find it insulting. prs knows what theyre doing if you feel otherwise order custom pups in one.... dont swap... i wouldent even swap prs pups for prs pups. i like guitars the way they are meant to be.

enter does not work for me, i have not changed any settings (yet)
br probably works... testing
i like the look of the new p90's, it looks like a nice snug fit so no woodwork.
i was hoping i might have found a limited model from *insert convention name here*

il keep you posted

how does the IV compare in value to other archtops?
i just wanted the piezo, but i heard its the same price as a hollowbody II but in europe its double the price...

whats the original pickup for the IV archtop? (59/09 or wcr crossroads or something)

prs does not offer archtop 1 pickups anymore. i seem to recall specialised pups

McCarty Archtop, which were underwound McCarty pups. Two conductor, so no option to coil split.

ah, too bad. i own a mccarty and the coil split is a really nice feature. would a 2 conducter also not support a rotary 5 or 6 way switch. if so i might put mccarty coiltap pups in the archtop. sound like a nice feature.

anyone have some input on value of a archtop IV, cannot find another one like it.

Not sure of the exact nature of an Archtop 'IV', but I recently purchased a mint Archtop Jazz (spruce top, mahogany back/sides, Archtop pups, piezo) for $2700.

It sounds soooo good.

The Archtop 4 is a lot like the Archtop Jazz but the Archtop 4 has a Brazilian Rosewood fretboard and bird inlay.

The Archtop Jazz came with a nice PS Suede case.

The Archtop IV had a Maple back and a Spruce top. They also typically came with the piezo.

My old one...

I don't remember what I sold it for. Not a lot were made, so e-Bay is tough to use as a pricing guide...

I thought you said it was insulting to change anything? Now you want to swap pickups and add coiltaps? :D

I say change whatever needs to be changed. For example, I have 2 Modern Eagles...IMHO, the greatest production guitars ever built. I swapped the pickups in both of them. Now, they're perfect.

Well, they're already swapped - so no harm, no foul...right:wink::biggrin:
Looks to be a nice guitar bio - I say go for it if you can get a fair price. Nice it's got a brazzy fretboard. Ballpark looks to be $2700-3200?
