Anyone play jazz on a custom 24?

I usually play jazz on a tele or an ES-335, but today I am playing on my custom 24. Doesn't sound very jazzy to me, the tone is sort of bright, but it sounds good-- I think I am just not used to it. The tele, believe it or not, has a mellower sound to me, on the neck pick up (of course all teles sound different as well, the one I am referring to is a 2000 stock '52 reissue).

Just curious if anyone digs jazz on custom 24. Are there any well known jazz guys that rock a PRS solidbody?

Yup. That was my first PRS guitar and I (try to) play jazz most of all genres. I roll the tone back some and get a nice sound. I think that I respond mostly to how the whole guitar works together. It vibrates in such great unison that I just get into the music so well, and that inspires better playing.

I have since purchased a singlecut Hollowbody and a Studio model. They all get great sounds, though the Hollowbody is in many ways naturally best suited to jazz.

As a relatively new PRS owner (just over 1 year, now), I am still incredibly stoked at how great these guitars are, and the philosophy that Paul has about building his guitars and running his company. It's great to be a a position to purchase these pieces of 'functional art' and enjoy them and support Paul's approach to this industry.

Cool, didn't know about Al Di Meola. I believe you can really play just about any style music on any style guitar (with the exception of traditional classical, which calls for a nylon string-- but even that is arguable), but I like to see what people are doing.

I'm studying jazz right now on my DGT and love it . I'm mostly a metal player but trying to go outside my comfort zone . I've played a cu24 recently and thought they were very versatile to say the least. Picking one up in less then two weeks too and will be using it for jazz as well as other genres.

I have played jazz on my Custom 22. Just get an EQ pedal and/or tweak your amp.

If you can play, snobs will get over the visual 'sacrilege'. Well, maybe...

I remember the PRS said SE Custom 24-7 was designed with both metal and jazz players in mind, so it probably can cover all grounds without looking too weird. Obviously, the Custom 24 is a close relative... Just roll off the tone, It tames that high end for the more bluesier and jazzier stuff. I do that a lot and it works for me! All in all, I believe that style has little to do with the guitar itself, and you can literally play any genre with a Custom 24, that is with the correct amp set-up. They're chameleons :top:

I can get a real good jazz tone from the neck pickup on my Brent Mason, and it's a lot more comfortable on a strap than a big jazz box is.

very true Jazz boxes look cool, but they are bulky and can sometimes feel like a heavy acoustic guitar, and not to mention the feedback problems with gain. Unless you grow up adoring Joe Pass and George Benson...
