Anyone have experience with satin finishes?

have yet to see any claim that satin finish is thinner (and therefore presumably more resonant) than glossy. On appearance alone, I think some PRS satin finishes look awesome, but if what others are saying is true about the 'satin' turning glossy over time in contact spots, then my interest wanes. No idea why a satin finish couldn't be tough enough to resist get shiny from contact/use...

I think I want satin more than I do once its home but then after a bit I warm back up to it. A satin or natural neck, there's no question. I prefer it all day but its easy enough to do myself so not a deal breaker if glosss.

I've got a partscaster I started making out of a Squier back in '86 or '87. The first major change was replacing the neck with one of Warmoth's very early compound radius offerings. I had it stained a vintage yellow color, then just put Tung oil on the back. Every year or two, I apply some more oil, then smooth it out with 000 steel wool. Still plays great after all these years.
