Anyone for a roasted neck Silver Sky?

Would look great with the rosewood fretboard. I wonder if the roasting process produces a consistent enough color that the maple fretboard would match the neck as well.

Hard tail would be cool. It wouldn’t sound the same at all…..block the trem if you don’t use it
Well actually.... it would sound the same and no need to block the SS trem. It's designed for it to be decked and that's the way they come.

Looking at some EBMM examples, definitely yes

Yes, some of theirs look killer! But...

I think that PRS dries all their woods with so little moisture compared to everyone else that roasting is unnecessary

That's correct, and this is why people started roasting necks, and why PRS doesn't need to. At the beginning, the process was just to dry them quickly. While doing that, they discovered some cool appearance enhancements could be gained as well. Some of the EBMM necks are REALLY cool looking, but Paul put lots of time and study into his drying method/process so I doubt he'd do this.

The roasted necks I've heard of don't even to be finished. It's different than just drying the wood. I wonder if the tone the same though.

I have found that there IS something about a roasted neck that is sooooo much more “ RIGHT” in my hands. It’s kinda like a neck carve that works with that feel that makes it a part of you. Don’t EVEN get me started on stainless frets…………

I'm in!

I don't know if roasting changes the tone, I suspect not vs the very well dried woods PRS uses. However, there's definitely a certain, and spectacular, feel to roasted maple, and that's what it's about for me. I played an amazing Suhr Modern S with a roasted neck a couple weeks ago, and a couple of the limited run SE's with roasted necks were great too.

My well used custom 22 soapy, was clearly left in a car in the heat repeatedly all the plastic (trem bar tip, pickup covers, knobs, had shrunk, melted and cracked. The back of the neck looks roasted because of the heat exposure. I have a second one of the 50 produced in 2010, same color that is dead mint. The beat up one sounds very different. They’re both exceptional, but my number one has the most sonically even neck I’ve ever heard. No dead spots, wolf tones or any other interference.

Ok, let me add this: if Paul EVER thought there was even a small tonal advantage, he would start roasting necks

Although not exactly common, it has been done...

I can validate that, Dave.
