Anybody buying the PRS guitar strings?

Any strings that work are great strings. I would never try to change some ones mind about that.

The new PRS strings are interesting to me. Maybe I’ll get some 11s in the new Signature line to see what the hullabaloo is all about.

(Whenever I’m concerned about sounding overly pushy with what I’m stating, I end with, “to me”. What I have, do, or think is probably only good to/for me. Happy to share, just not trying to be pushy.)

Whatever works. I just put back the original strings on a guitar I love. The strings happened to be PRS. I just bought this guitar and Guitar Center is selling me strings that are the same. BULL DINKY
I have been playing way to long and all strings ARE NOT THE SAME!
Whatever works.

I have a theory that our sweat composition relates to life of strings. Forums are full of 50/50 comments what brand string goes dull while the other rings for longer. I can say that Ernie Ball and me do not agree, goes dull even if I look at them funny while Daddario just stay nice and spanky.

I'm using Daddario 11-50 balanced sets for everything except guitars in drop where I replace the bass string with either 0.054 or 0.056 depending what I have on hand or mood for. I don't like to thick strings as its to difficult to give them momentum and 0.054 in standard tuning is my absolute limit but for Eb tuning .056 still works

I have tried NYXL but I see no point paying more for something that gives me no issues to begin with - I have stable tuning with standard strings, they live long enough too, had one dud in 20+ years since I started playing this brand.

Another reason I like Daddario is the point reward system and the customer support. George @ Daddario was always great with me. I'm a bedroom warrior and I was always treated like a rock star with free strings sets on multiple occasion.

I like staying with a good guys.

Saying that if PRS strings are made by Daddario then I would like them too. Among other brands I tried occasionally and liked a lot was DR with rounded cores (cool strings but died as quickly as Ernie Balls) and Rotosounds (greater tension with smaller overall string diameter, I liked them very much)

I usually repeat this every time one of these threads comes up, if nobody else already has.

While the strings are made by D'Ad, Paul has confirmed that they are PRS spec'd alloys that are not exactly like standard D'Ads.

My 594 was set up with NYXL’s from the dealer - they were nice enough to give it a setup and re-string before sending it out, but didn’t have any PRS strings on hand, so we agreed on the NYXL’s. I appreciate their work (the setup was amazing) but the NYXL’s didn’t last long before being swapped for a set of the PRS Signatures, which I definitely preferred. I say that because I think NYXL’s are the “equivalent” of the PRS Signatures, in terms of being the premium set with a special alloy and higher output, but they definitely didn’t seem to be the same strings in a different package.

I still love the PRS strings. Using the Signature and Classic sets, just depending on the guitar.

I use only PRS strings on my PRS guitars. I’m odd though, I stick with manufacturer strings on all my guitars; Fender bullets on my Strat and Tele, Gibson strings on my Les Paul, Martin strings on my Dreadnaught. Gets confusing which strings to put on the Collings and Taylor, but I stick with the brand that came on them. I’m lucky that I have dry hands and strings don’t corrode at all so I don’t need coated strings. It is tough to hang onto a pick though.

I tried Ernie Ball and don’t like them. I prefer D’Addario.

The Classic 9-42 go on my cheap SE's every time. I haven't had a problem with them at all and why not keeps them PRS. If they made a 9-46 set I'd buy them exclusively.

The Classics are a great buy if you want a traditional string, not the high output alloy doodads. Previously I used DR, mostly Pure Blues but also Tite Fits on a couple guitars, and found that the PRS Classics had all the qualities that I liked about the DR sets, plus they’re a heck of a lot cheaper than the Pure Blues, major win!

I have been using D‘Addario ever since I saw the sticker attached to the 009-042 „This Set used by John McLaughlin“ in 1982 when I REALLY started woodshedding seriously on the guitar chopwise with Johnny Mac as my guiding light. He is to this day. But now I use NYXL 010-046(balanced tension)on all guitars except on my Semiacoustics(65 ES335,64 Casino,2001 Ibanez JSM) I use 012-054 in Standard. All my PRS (CU24,McCarty,SSky 1st Ed) are with NYXL 010-046 and all acoustics are 012-054 apart from my parlors 1958 LG 013-056 and my Taylor Koa 013-056….oh and Flatwounds on my Archtops and my basses(66 Mustang and 75 Jazzbass)…forgot the Classical which all use La Bella on my 7 String and D’Addario Pro Arte Flamenco in my Conde
