I have had a number of bikes in my day from old jap standards, to rice rockets, to Harleys. I have not been on since around 8 or nine years ago when my daughter was really llittle. I have been thinking of getting back on and not familiar with all of the new bikes out now and wondered if anyone had any current favorites, or just show off what you are riding now.

I have been looking at the Victory Jackpot, kind of an American made factory custom. FAT 250 rear tire, big engine, custom paint and all chromed out for the same price as a stock stripped HD. Anyone have any experience with Victory bikes, and what do you all think of this one, I kind of dig it.

I have a couple friends with them and they are very happy. Look into resale value before you buy though. If you don't have to have a V Twin ... there are a lot of nice cruisers out there. Having said that ... my last bike was a HD Heritage Softail Classic that I took in partial trade for a boat I was selling. I took the bags off it so it looked like a Fat Boy with wire wheels. Unfortunately my back will probably never allow me to ride again ...

Victory's are nice bikes and a lot of bang for the buck compared to HD but.... no resale value. Most guys that want an HD style bike...buy an HD. ;)

Market is slow, these are toys - just like guitars. You should be able to find a nice USED one for cheap - let somebody else take that first value hit. :D

I had a '99 Victory. Powerful engine, great ride, crappy transmission (which was redesigned). I put many happy miles on mine. And with a fully loaded t-bag, 2 saddlebags, and my girlfriend on the back, I smoked every HD in the hills of South Dakota. It also sounded quite good with a set of D&D shorties.

I'm happy that HD finally has some real USA-made competition.

Yeah I get the whole resale thing, but I like NEW. They are not that expensive enough like a car where I would cringe at the resale, and I am leery of used bikes where guys could have beat them.

I am also old enough, hopefully, where I don't have to have a HD because it is cool. I do love them and nothing sounds like a good one but don't want to get sucked back into the whole drinking the kool aid deal. I already have enough black HD t shirts in a closet for a lifetime.

Anyone else have a bike or want one?

I have ridden all my life. Traded mine a few years back for a pickup truck because I was having back problems. Plan on getting another one in the future now that my back is better.

I haven't ridden in many years, but I'd love to have an old Brit bike. Norton, Vincent or the likes. I doubt I'll ever buy another bike though, it's too cold for me to ride year 'round and I only have so much play money and I still have a long list of guitars on my "to-do list".

I had a '69 Bonneville when I was in High School. Sure wish I still had that one. Looked like this.

The last motorcycle to leave my garage was this 996. Those days are gone.

When I was a kid my dad had a black '70 Norton Commando. Bad ass bike. I would like one but between the special tools needed and the reliability factor it's not on my radar!

That Ducati is sexy but I am too old and big to be folded into a taco. I do like their Supermotard, but fear it would make me do really stupid and irresponsible things!

Victory is nice. I'm also partial to Yamaha's Warrior in the class.
I find Ducati's power delivery quite aggressive.
Three bikes currently in the Garage: Virago, VFR (touring), CBR954RR (track).

Supermotard rider here - my SMR is a total blast but 450cc keeps things sane...

She was brand new in this photo but showing a lot more "personality" (dirt, dings) now... can't wait for March 15 when we're legal here in QC!

PS I know that's not advice, so much... however I've had a few "big" bikes and this little road monster has been more fun than all others put together.

I know Brit Bikes aren't reliable, but we're not talking about being rational, we're talking about motorcycles. :)

Damn. Both those bikes are total knockouts. I just started riding again (used to race MX) and had to go with a throwback so I picked up a Kawasaki 500 triple twoStroke. The original super bike! The thing STILL flies when you keep it up on the pipe. Love them 2 strokes!

The Ducati 1100 HyperMoto is the last Street bike I lusted after -THAT BIKE LOOKS LIKE FUN!!! :D I've had a Yamaha 1100, Honda CBR600, Sportster, HD Road King Classic and last a Buell X1 Carbon Fiber Extreme... Too many Motocross bikes to list - YZ450F on the stand in the garage right now.

Wedge - I like new too for the most part but please consider.... There are LOTS of guys that go buy a shiny NEW bike ride it a few times and for lots of reasons it gets parked. I would NEVER buy a new - non race - bike again. If you hunt there are bikes out there with just a few K on them - to few to really hurt them - and you'll be able to tell. You go find and old guy like us that bought it didn't ride - I found several HyperMoto's with 2 to 4K on them for 7 To 9K. That bike sold for 12K plus new.... I'll let somebody else rub the nubs off the tires to save ENOUGH MONEY to buy a couple of very nice guitars! :D

For example:

"The Hunt" is more work than just walking into the dealership, but I DO enjoy the hunt. It's like hunting for guitars! :D

Crap! LOL!!! I shouldn't have started looking around - Hear ya go Wedge! Buy it so I don't! :

Those Victory bikes look way cool, but I'm with Rango. If you look around for a hardly used bike instead of a new one you'll save yourself a new PRS or 2!

I've got a motard, I swapped this one for a GSXR Streetfighter I built (750 frame, 1100 engine, lots of mods). This is pretty much how I got it, it's got quite a few mods (carb, full system, suspension, Trailtech, and those sexy motard wheels), very fun handling and more than enough power.

I've just ordered a few parts to get her more highway friendly. Bigger tank, new chain/sprockets, HID light kit etc. I'll also change to braided lines and tidy her up a bit, but the idea is to do a big adventure ride with some mates to the top of Australia in a couple of years time. Should be a blast!

I've got a HD Street Glide with the front lower fairings and detach tour pack that make it look more like an Electra Glide Ultra. I looked at the Victory's a few years back when I first started riding again. I ended up with a HD Dyna Super Glide. Very similar ride, but I knew I'd be moving up to a touring model at some point, so resale was the factor for me. That said, I actually love my current bike. I've got cruise control, satellite radio, and room in the detach tour pack to store overnight luggage. The ABS on it saved me once already when I slide sideways on loose gravel.

My recommendation would be to do what I did 5 years ago. I took a basic riding safety class and test rode several different brands/models before deciding on the Super Glide. Or put more simply, take your time and make sure the bike you buy is the right bike for you. I remember sitting on a HD Road Glide, and being a smaller frame guy, I felt like I couldn't see over that fixed front fairing. Too many crazy drivers on the roads to risk getting a bike you're not completely comfortable on.

Another HD Touring model junkie --

I like the Vic's -- Nearly bought one once, but decided on sticking with HD if for no other reason that a very broad dealer network. And "that something" that people always talk about...

I had a kawi. two stroker back in 1970,when i was in the navy. The only bike wilder than that was the 750 kawi. That thing wanted to do wheelys parked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
