I've got a SE Santana I'm trying to sell because I picked up a Santana III. Not much luck trying to sell it so far so I'm considering keeping it and throwing in PU's from the III - (It came with 59/09's installed and the original pu's were part of the deal). I Loved the SE but the PU's weren't great (IMO). I've never heard the III pu's so not sure what to expect.

So - anyone familiar with these two set's of pickups – I'd love to hear your thoughts

Thanks

Depends on what you’re shooting for. Genre?

Personally, I’d throw the SIII pups in the SE because you have SIII pickups to throw in it! As for the SE pickups, they are shared with the SE245 and I dig ‘em for a lot of different music. Did I replace my SE245 pups? Yep, but I enjoyed the stock ones for quite a while. I have a video depicting my SE245 in an example of LOUD and fun, if interested. Your SE Santana would sound very similar under the same circumstances.

Thanks Boogie.
I'd love to see your video

I have a Santana SE from around 2011. The pickups have stickers on the back saying SE245. However, the measured DC resistance is around 8.2k ohm for the neck, and 12.5k ohm for the bridge pickup. These measurements don't match with the figures for SE245s on another PRS thread, especially on the bridge pickup.

Maybe these pickups are based on the SE245s, but with more windings.
Can't really say which magnet type my pickups use, but they are stronger than Alnico IV.

My 2017 SE Santana had the same pickup values and stickers that said Santana on them.
