Looking for some feedback on Dave's Guitar Shop. I see they have quite a few PRS guitar. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

I have bought all 6 of my Core models from Dave's. Top notch place all around.

Buy with confidence. They're not one of the biggest PRS dealers in the U.S. for nothing...

I haven't been there yet, but I have several friends who tell me I need to make the trip and check it out, that the service alone is worth the 2 hour drive... I'd just be happy to go to a shop with more than 1 or 2 core models, and if for nothing else, to see Daves very impressive personal collection.

It's one of my absolute favorite shops! Very cool shop to deal with, they're all great, and Dave's got a KILLER collection upstairs that everyone should see at some point!!

Rest assured, you'll find almost anything you could want there....PRS or otherwise! If you're close enough to visit in person, it's definitely worth the trip!

Dave's is pretty awesome as everyone has stated. I've bought more cabs, amps, pedals, etc than guitars but my experiences have always been great. Kinda odd because their guitar selection is better than most, but I just haven't ever done a guitar deal there for some reason.

Picked up a number of guitars and related gear from Dave's Guitar Shop over the years! Nothing but good things to say about Dave and his crew!

i have purchased 4 guitars and plenty of accessories from Dave's and service has been good. i was a little disappointed with some fret repair work i had done recently but never had an issue with any purchases.

My only complaint on the prs selection is that it is aging. They haven't brought any new stuff in for a long time. It is a very clean and well lit store. Tons of room to get off by yourself. The sales staff won't harass you at all but will be right there when you need them. What they do have in stock is mostly artist grade and there are some stunning instruments. When I bought my custom 24 I really wanted to buy it there but hfs/vb being the only options was ultimately a deal breaker for me as I already have that in the house and wanted something different.

Maybe you're thinking of a different Dave's Guitar Shop.

This was the selection in 2013...

A quick look at the website shows lots of PRS guitars both new and used.

They did buy a lot of the 2007 brazzy stock that was recently finished so they still have quite a few of those but they aren't "old".

Thanks for the info everyone. I would be purchasing on-line since I live in Texas. I don't know if that makes a difference.

No, I am thinking of the correct Dave's... I grew up 45 minutes from there and live just a few hours away now... I wanted either a 30th anniversary or at least something with 59/09's in it... There isn't one on the place. There is a couple 2013 models but the vast majority are 07's, 11's, and 12's. Those 12's are 3 years old already. Every custom 24 is a hfs/vb instrument. That selection in 2013 is the EXACT same selection that is in there today. Don't get me wrong, they are nice instruments but the selection hasn't changed.

And I didn't say old... I said aging! Big difference... If you are looking for a brand spanking new instrument in a newly offered color with new pickup flavors they don't have it. That is my only complaint about them and their PRS stock, for someone that doesn't have a pickup preference or that isn't buying a custom 22 or 24 then the point is completely moot as the rest of the inventory is pretty much current as those pickups and other features haven't changed in them nearly as often as in the customs.

There's a free standing rack the same size filled down both sides next to it as well as a row down this wall and the one side of the free standing rack will full floor stands of all PRS artist package guitars as well.

if you look at their newly listed gear which i do frequently you will see that they are adding PRS guitars but generally they are used DHW is on the money with his comment

oh and i am stopping by there today if you want some fresh pics though you can definitely see the individual guitars on their page

This, for the most part.

I'm heading there in a couple of weeks on a long weekend road trip with the wife. Chicago to Lacrosse, Lacrosse to the Quad Cities (where I am originally from), and then back to Chicago. The intent of the trip was to get back to Dave's and make a hands on purchase. The trip has been planned for 3 months, or so. I've been looking at their inventory since January trying to decide on what to get. I agree with DHW that their stock is aging, but there are a ton of terrific pieces to pick from,at some great prices. As for them getting a lot of used, kind of. Since I've been watching, it appears that they are moving some of their "New" instruments to "Used." For example, when I started looking they had 4 new 408's in stock (this would have been January time frame). Sometime in March all 4 were gone from the "New" category, and were now listed in the "Used" category at a substantially reduced price. All 4 have subsequently sold. I assume they do this as their inventory depreciates to the point that it makes fiscal sense to reclassify. At least listed as "Used" they can decrease the price and move the gear at little easier. Whether they take a loss vs. cost is anyone's guess. In each instance that I've seen this, the Used gear condition is listed as EC+. Not saying that everything Used they have listed as EC+ was reclassified, just making an observation. You'd have to see something you want, and watch it for quite a length of time and see what happens (and hope someone doesn't snag it out from under you). Again, this is purely from an observational standpoint.

and yes, I will be dining at Buzzard Billies!
